State of Massachusetts Seasonal Forestry Assistant - Boston Region Summer Recall 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts
About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, campgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal Forestry Assistant. Assists in the preparation of multiple use forestry management plans; assists in the interpretation of aerial photos and other cartographic work regarding forests; assists in the inventory of natural resources and establishing and maintaining state forest boundary lines. Conducts vegetation surveys and collects information on deer impacts on DCR properties. Cooperates with state and municipal authorities during emergencies and natural disasters such as forest fires and insect infestations. Perform tree measurements on DCR Continuous Forest Inventory (CFI) plots. Assist with locating and marking DCR boundaries. Perform habitat management to maintain and expand existing meadow habitats. Operate, maintain and repair chainsaws, brushsaws, power pruners, and other equipment used to accomplish goals. Assist in DCR emergency responses to wildfire, medical, search and rescue as need.
