Stantec’s Water practice has an opportunity for a highly motivated Resident Engineer with large water and wastewater project experience. This opportunity is for a conveyance project in the Northeast region (primarily MA, NY, CT and RI).
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the technical supervision for the construction phase of the project. Some of the elements of the project include construction of large pipelines and structures, sewer bypass, water main construction, Cured-in-Place pipeline rehabilitation, and utility relocations.
Responsible for supervising Stantec staff, including development of Management plans, tracking career progress, mentoring, advocating for and approving timesheets and training/development requests.
Manage inspection staff and the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with clients’ requirements.
Act as liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors’ RFI's and review of shop drawings.
Serve as the primary point of contact on assigned construction contracts, with primary responsibility for construction contract administration and quality management.
Responsible for overall site safety, permit status compliance and coordination with other agencies.
Familiarity with construction procedures and scheduling of work sequences. Should be familiar with dewatering, backfilling and compaction of utility trenches, pavement/surface restoration, architectural and structural construction.
Provides technical review of construction plans and specifications and project changes for constructability and practicality.
Manage office staff responsible for record keeping, general correspondence, compiling and drafting of required reports and deliverables.
Monitors Contractor performance, quality, schedule, overall responsiveness, and effectiveness.
Exerts influence over and maintain excellent relationships with Contractors to maintain project goals.
Manages the Contractor monthly payment process and recommends appropriate adjustments as necessary to manage the Contractor.
Position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Be able to manage multi-discipline design teams, with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Outstanding record of successful Water Projects – Thorough knowledge of industry codes to ensure compliance of federal and state regulations, understanding of new technologies and cutting-edge methods.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
OSHA training/certification and Confined Space Entry certification beneficial (or will train, if needed for an assignment).
Must have good driving record and a valid driver’s license.
Required software applications include Adobe, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project. AutoCAD experience beneficial, but not required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience on projects showing increasing responsibility.
Minimum of ten (10) years in a construction management role of water and wastewater related projects.
Registered Professional Engineer in Northeast region (MA, NY, CT or RI) or ability to become registered within one year preferred.
CCM is preferred.
Position will work in both a field and office setting. Field (Outdoor Environment) Activities are performed in a variety of outdoor work environments that may change regularly based on project requirements. Work environments may include exposure to varying terrain, heights, traffic control/protection, bodies of water, environmental (i.e., animals/plants) or biological contact. Work in an environment where the noise and temperature levels may vary. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing and pulling up to 23 kilograms / 50 pounds Frequent – 34-66% of shift. Subject to some periods of sitting; will be required to stand for moderate lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Climbing ladders in trenches and shored excavation areas for observation. Requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.
