Job Description:

Where you fit in –

As Offshore Wind Turbine Engineer, sitting within the team that drives the Offshore Wind Innovation Program of Shell, you’ll play a key role in identifying novel wind turbine technologies and translating these to become value-adding for our business. You’ll team up with senior wind turbine, yield and O&M experts to jointly work on the program.

What’s the role -

To support the Offshore Wind Innovation Program, you’re expected to be a team player that is curious to explore and test, but also able to mature and develop such a concept to the level where it can be handed over to the business.

More specific duties include:

  • Support in wind turbine technology reviews, such as in-depth Technical Due Diligence efforts on future turbine types

  • Coordinate the development of wind turbine aero-elastic models

  • Draft and test processes that leverage loads modelling expertise into advanced services for wind farm project development and operations

  • Help drive further improvements in wind turbine concept modelling, notably in areas of turbine loads and wind farm layout optimization

  • Identify wind turbine technology innovations, quantify their risk-reward profile and advise on the appropriate Shell position

  • Supporting Shell’s ongoing external technology collaborations, such as the Offshore Wind Accelerator, GROW Offshore Wind, the Floating Wind JIP, and the US National Offshore Wind R&D consortium.

  • Providing technical support for Shell Ventures wind energy related investments.

  • This is a role that’s going to stretch your natural communication skills. As you drive business-centred new innovation and nurture collaborative and trustworthy strategic partnerships with a dynamic range of internal and external stakeholders, across the Renewables & Energy Solutions business and beyond.

Skills and Requirements

What we need from you -

  • A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics (or similar) or a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the same areas plus several years of relevant experience

  • At least 3 years experience in Wind Turbine Generator loads modelling

  • Strong team player whilst also ability to act autonomously

  • Work effectively with 3rd parties

  • Build effective working relationship with the Renewables Wind business

  • Develop effective relationships with external stakeholders and experts on a working level

  • Application of your technical expertise and knowledge in a business environment.

  • Intimacy with wind turbine loads modelling software packages.

  • Experience with engineering workflows that deploy wind turbine loads modelling

  • Experience in conceptual design of wind turbine platforms

  • Familiarity with technology aspects of wind project development and asset management

  • Understanding of wind turbine design and manufacturing, from gearbox and generator, to main bearings and blades.
