Boston University Research Fellow, Health Law, Policy and Management Department, School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts

The Research Fellow will help the Principal Investigator and Project Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a complex research project, focusing particularly on (1) data collection with colleges and universities participating in a national survey on secondhand harms from alcohol, and (2) analysis of complex survey data examining student alcohol use behavior during COVID-19-related restrictions on college campuses.

Principal responsibilities include a variety of research functions to meet research project objectives. The Research Fellow assists in coordinating administrative details around data collection and survey fielding with subcontractors and collaborating institutions. Collects and assists with analysis of campus-level alcohol policies. Coordinates administrative details regarding subcontracts, consultants and grant reporting requirements. Plans meetings and conference calls to achieve research project objectives. Assists with analysis of survey data and development of research manuscripts.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with analysis of survey data and preparation of manuscripts

  • Collects and assists with analysis of state and campus-level alcohol policies

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of a complex research project focused on the recruitment of colleges and universities for participation in a national survey. 

  • Implements and oversees subcontracts and consultants to meet project aims and federal grant reporting requirements.

  • Manages subcontract and collaborating relationships and coordinates and schedules meetings with collaborators

  • Supervise maintenance of survey data and coordinate team of researchers doing data analyses

  • Provide other administrative and project management assistance to PI as needed.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree preferred with 1-3 years’ experience.

  • Demonstrated skill using data management and quantitative data analysis software i.e., SAS/SPSS/Stata, Excel.

  • Experience working with population surveys and managing large datasets strongly preferred

  • Strong writing skills and high level of organization.

  • Knowledge of Federal regulations for sponsored research.

  • Strong analytical ability as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff.

  • Must be able to handle multiple competing priorities. Self-directed, team-oriented and customer focused

  • Must be trusted with confidential information.
