Wellforce Research Associate I - Clinical/Health Services in Boston, Massachusetts
This Research Associate is responsible for the development and implementation and reporting for research protocols under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
The successful applicant will work directly with the PI to generate new ideas/experiments towards our goal to cure epidermolysis bullosa (EB). The Chen lab aims to decrease pain and vision loss by translating promising drugs into topical ophthalmic treatments for EB. Currently investigating the effectiveness of recombinant human protein therapy on the ocular surface, and exploring methods for transporting a large protein through intact epithelium. We work with a delicate strain of mouse that is deficient in collagen VII that requires special handling/care.
Work as part of one or more project teams, and remain proficient in designing and managing research.
Collect and analyze data, and deliver research reports when necessary with guidance from the PIs for collaborative research projects.
With guidance from the PI, produce scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present research data in house and in scientific conferences.
Write as well as assist in the preparation of applications for external grants for research and fellowships. May apply and obtain grants as PI in accordance with the Medical Center’s PI Guidance Document.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Mentor junior personnel.
Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
May serve as liaison with sponsor.
Monitors and documents project progress.
Interacts with PI and collaborators, inpatient and outpatient facilities and personnel to comply with study protocols and requirements.
May assist in preparation of initiating documentation, resource and personnel allocation, and consent form creation.
Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Master’s Degree in related field
Or a Minimum of two years research experience acquired through a postdoctoral fellowship or technical position in an academic setting.
The successful applicant will work independently in the lab and be responsible for scheduling and performing experiments, education of a research assistant, analysis of results, and presenting data to the PI. Experience with statistical analysis, immunohistochemistry, western blot, ELISA required. Experience with single cell RT-PCR and large proteins is preferred. Must be a team player and good communicator.
