64836BRJob Posting Title:Research Assistant II- Ploegh LabDepartment:Research - PCMMAutoReqId:64836BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:ResearchJob Posting Description:The Ploegh Lab is looking for a Research Assistant, whose main responsibility is to support the day-to-day functioning of a collaborative and cutting edge research laboratory that studies molecular aspects of immune recognition and biochemistry of the immune system more generally.
This Research Assistant II will be responsible for:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.
Assist with daily lab operations.
Keep lab supplies stocked and equipment in working condition.
Prepare stock solutions and tissue culture media supplements.
Maintain a database of lab expenses including supply purchases and facilities and core costs. Provide PI with monthly accounting of spending.
Keep databases of lab reagents (chemicals, antibodies, plasmids and frozen cells).
Oversee animal colony (including breeding and maintenance of knockout lines) and keeping track of animal inventory and cage counts.
Train new employees on lab procedures, safety and methods.
Assists with ensuring compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
Submit all published plasmids to Addgene.
Assist with protein purification, cell culture, genotyping, and cloning.
Arrange transfer of materials to and from other labs.
Deal with vendors
To qualify, you must have:
BS in a STEM-related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience
Experience with animal colony maintenance preferred.
Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
