The NextGen Ag process engineer functions in a lead role, and has a primary focus of technical execution of project deliverables, on time and on budget. This role requires broad technical and commercial knowledge, with the ability to apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods with minimal supervision. Performs technology evaluation studies, conceptual and preliminary design, and detailed design for projects in the food and beverage industries. Continual improvement and development by expanding knowledge and skill set within the specific process engineering verticals is expected, along with other disciplines and functional areas. The process engineer should be recognized as a technical specialist in having in-depth knowledge of one or more engineering processes or technical aspects of the industry. You should be able to design a complete project, as well as direct others and operate on a cross-disciplinary basis. This is a flexible role which also includes business development (proposal support), team development, and business acumen. You must be in the details as an engineer, but also able to think big from the project and broader perspective.
The NextGen Ag team currently has a physical presence in Kansas City, Denver, San Francisco, and Atlanta, but is supported by and draws on B&V professionals throughout the US and internationally. Remote/virtual office is an option.
Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables
Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and material selection. Prepares equipment and construction specifications.
Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
Plans and conducts independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Responsible for budget, schedule, and quality requirements
Reviews other engineering work for technical accuracy
Responsible for coordinating resources on a project
Drives internal and external stakeholder collaboration.

Engineering Standards – Continues to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes. Engaged in continual improvement of these standards.

Continuous Improvement – Champions continuous improvement and change management efforts
10 years experience as a process engineer
Food, beverage, and/or pharmaceutical/FDA regulated process industry and facility experience
Sanitary/hygienic design experience
Experience in process scale-up design from lab/pilot to commercial production volumes highly desired.
Experience in one or more of the following process areas: cell-culture, fermentation, bioprocess, bioreactor design, downstream processing/purification, mammalian cells.
Experience with FDA and/or USDA requirements
Hands-on experience in a facility
Capital project experience
Experience working with startup companies
Education: Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years related work experience
