RedHat Principal Software Quality Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

Job summary

The Red Hat Quality Engineering (QE) team offers an inclusive and open environment for engineers to collaborate and build technology solutions for product testing and release readiness. The Red Hat OpenShift QE team is looking for a Principal Software Quality Engineer to join us in Boston or Westford, MA or Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will work on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform built on container technology and the Kubernetes cluster management system. You'll be responsible for all aspects of quality for Red Hat OpenShift, including designing test plans, extending automation frameworks, and developing new automated tests for both back and front ends. You will make sure our solutions fulfill the highest possible enterprise quality, performance, usability, and supportability standards. As a Principal Software Quality Engineer, you will gain deep technical understanding of a variety of popular technologies, including containers, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, etc. You will be part of Red Hat’s culture that makes us unique in the Industry, a culture enriched with Open Management Practices, Open Decision Framework, and diversity and inclusion. Primary job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks and scripts with Ruby, Golang or Python for Red Hat OpenShift testing and implementation

  • Participate in the test planning and product planning processes

  • Participate in the design sessions side by side with developers and product managers to scope and prioritize new features

  • Conduct new feature research and design test cases

  • Execute manual and automated tests for Red Hat OpenShift and deliver clear status in a timely manner.

  • Explore, identify and document new bugs. Advocate for the resolution of bugs and communicate their impact on customers to developers and support

  • Constantly learn new things and maintain an overview of current technologies

  • Work in a fast-paced agile global environment of talented quality engineers

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership to junior quality engineers

Required skills

  • Expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining test environments and automated test suites

  • 10+ years of testing experience working with globally distributed QE team members

  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system (any distribution)

  • Familiarity with agile testing methodologies and techniques

  • Familiarity with Linux containers and container orchestration tools like Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes

  • Programming skills in Bash shell, Ruby, Golang, Python, or another programming language

  • Motivated and dedicated to learning and collaboration

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and learn quickly

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English
