Arranta Bio is establishing the first end-to-end manufacturing capability for mRNA at our new state-of-the-art Best in Class facility in Watertown, MA. We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Principal Scientist to join the Nucleic Acids Process Sciences team during a pivotal time in the shaping of Arranta’s development and manufacturing offerings. The successful candidate will perform process development and scale-up studies to develop robust, efficient, and scalable manufacturing processes for encapsulation of mRNA (and other related nucleic acid products) for both in-house and customer programs. The candidate will be a senior scientific leader for nucleic acid technologies and LNP development working with a cross functional team delivering from incoming project transfer through GMP production and represent Arranta as a technical leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design, development, innovate, and improve in-house and client lipid nanoparticles (LNP) drug product formulations and processes
Perform scale-up, technology transfer, process development and characterization for nucleic acid-based products and LNP formulations and methodologies
Establish and optimize methodologies for LNP preparation, characterization, and GMP manufacturing in support of in-house and client programs
Work cross-functionally with process science, manufacturing, process engineering, analytical development and QC, as well as other departments to delivery on-time and in-full on customer commitments from development to manufacture
Represent Arranta in current and prospective client interactions as a subject matter expert and technical lead on client programs
Authors, executes, and leads development plans, experimental protocols, and investigations
Authors and leads the development of technical/development reports for in-house and client programs including contributions to regulatory submissions
Provides training, mentorship, and oversight to other scientific and laboratory staff
Professionally handles multiple priorities such that client and company goals are realized
Utilized DOE and QbD principles to ensure expedient, robust, and quality processes are deployed
Ensure process sciences laboratory and staff maintain a safety-first environment
Build, train, lead, ensure a continuously improvement culture with respect to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and cost process development/sciences staff
Other duties as assigned
PhD Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
B.S. or M.S. Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
Experience in formulation development and design of processes for mRNA encapsulation
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
Advanced skills in experimental design (e.g., DoE), data analysis, and presentation
Understanding with Quality by Design approach to process development
Experience with commercial scale up, large-scale bio-manufacture and cGMP is a plus
Ability to independently design experiments, analyze complex data and interpret and present experimental results, required
Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively motivate and manage a team in a fast-paced work environment.
