Rhythm Pharmaceuticals is seeking a talented Principal Scientist, Genetics to join the Translational Research and Development (TRAD) team. Rhythm is a precision therapy biotechnology company developing treatments for rare genetic diseases of obesity (RGDO).
The successful candidate will work closely with TRAD colleagues & external partners to carry out analyses of large-scale clinical and genomic databases. This person will collaborate with Rhythm’s clinical & biostatistics functions to further our understanding of the relationship between rare genetic variation, clinical & biochemical phenotypes and response to therapy.
This role will play a critical role in defining Rhythm’s precision medicine strategy for identifying and treating individuals with RGDO.
Responsibilities and Duties
Analyze large external and internal genomics databases, including data generated from Next Generation Sequencing and SNP arrays.
Design and analyze studies for biomarker discovery and validation.
Integrate data across multiple data sources, including publicly available data, internally generated sequencing data sets, and clinical electronic health records
Generate standardized clinical data sets for pooled analyses and/or meta- analyses of genotypes and phenotypes
Conduct association analyses of single genetic variants, gene-based scores, and multi-gene composite genotypes
Develop and implement pipelines to efficiently analyze associations across multiple phenotypes in multiple data sets using established and novel methods
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with external partners
Contribute to the planning, design and execution of translational R&D objectives
Generate analyses to support Rhythm’s scientific and clinical publication strategy
Qualifications and Skills
PhD/ScD and 3+ years of work experience
Degree in Genetic Epidemiology, Statistical/Population Genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Clinical Informatics, or related field preferred
Up-to-date knowledge of current statistical methods, tools, and algorithms for analyzing population genetics data
Prior clinical informatics and/or genetic epidemiology experience required
Proven ability to design and execute on genetic epidemiology studies within large clinical databases; previous experience with rare disease preferred
Expertise in R, Python, and other programming and scripting languages
Ability to integrate information to interpret results from genetic and clinical studies
Creative thinker, problem solver, innovator, good communicator and team player
Industry/Biotech experience preferred
Strong team player
This role is based in our Corporate office in Boson, Massachusetts. Candidates applying must be willing and able to be in the Boston office once it is safe to do so, per State and Federal COVID-19 guidelines.
This role will involve future travel, TBD post availability of COVID-19 vaccine
