About the role:
This role is designed for a thought-leading Ph.D. Statistician / Data Scientist who is attracted to rich and complex datasets that can be leveraged to better understand challenging problems in medicine and health.
As a Statistical Genomicist at Embark, you will have access to the largest collection of canine genotype, epigenotype, and phenotype data in the world. Our rapidly expanding database is the backbone of Embark’s research discovery and product innovation engine. You will also have unique access to the Big Data of Pet Lifestyle, a natural attribute of the lesser privacy concerns of our canine companions.
This role will embed statistical expertise in several scientific areas fueled by “-omics” data for a variety of projects in canine health and behavior. You will work closely with other Scientists, Engineers, and Product Managers to solve important scientific problems, develop the next generation of canine DNA test products, and promote health and longevity today, and for future generations of dogs.
Successful candidates will have experience working in collaborative environments with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is a talented and skilled statistician motivated to tackle complex data problems and inspired to enhance health and longevity through science.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Discovery and Commercialization. The position may reside in either Ithaca, NY or Boston, MA.
What you’ll do:
The Principal Research Scientist in Statistics will contribute vision and expertise in data science to further Embark’s effort to deliver a best-in-class genetic health product to pet parents, breeders, and veterinarians.
This person will help devise and implement a comprehensive strategy for gathering, organizing, assessing, analyzing, interpreting and commercializing Embark’s data assets
Collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders to advance Embark’s roadmap on data integrity and data connectivity
Collaborate with epidemiologists, geneticists, epigeneticists, data scientists, animal scientists, nutrition scientists and veterinarians to diffuse best practices in statistics and data science
Partner with science and engineering teams to define the QA and QC of data streams
Excel in scientific communication and graphic representation to ensure findings are presented clearly and accurately
Be an excellent contributor through standardized reporting and documentation
What experience we’re looking for:
8+ years of experience in data science
Ph.D. and post-graduate training in statistics
Proficiency in informatics and programming in python / R and cloud computing
Proficiency in machine learning
Proficiency in scientific communication, including graphic representation
Plus if experience in genetics and epigenetics
Plus if experience in industry or government
Plus if experience in cross-functional team management
Ability to thrive and adapt in a high growth, results-oriented environment
Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to collaborate
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Deep passion for dog health
