A Day in the Life

The Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Automation(AME) will be a key member of the Medtronic Operations team within the Surgical Robotics Platform. One of the primary roles of an AME is to be that Operations liaison bringing the voice of operations and allowing for the close alignment with internal cross functional team members and external teams to ensure collaboration and proper execution on all NPD and manufacturing appropriate deliverables.

The role of this position is to provide primarily software expertise and support in an NPD environment as well as in a manufacturing setting working with our contract manufactures with secondary knowledge and basic understanding of functional testers and automation principles. Responsibilities will include software development, implementation, and support associated with the manufacturing test processes and product. The AME will support program initiatives compliant with the organizations best practices.

You will:

Create where appropriate, software code to be used in manufacturing process applications

Assist and drive troubleshooting software issues in manufacturing

Contribute and develop strategies to optimize software workflows within the production process

Provide strategy and guidance on software implementation within the supply chain (tier 1 vs. tier 2 suppliers)

Collaborate with the internal RD Software development teams to create procedural content and work instructions required for installation on complex equipment in a manufacturing setting

Work with Contract manufacturing and third-party automation houses on functional test software strategies and implementation plans

Work with Product Development team to transfer technologies with complex software to manufacturing

Support in collaboration with the RD software team, product software releases and deployment

Advise management on programmatic developments impacting scheduling and cost

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

Experience providing technical leadership in a manufacturing environment.

Experience delivering multi-processor software systems.

Understand networking and distributed software designs.

Understand COTS/SOUP implications when using off the shelf operating systems, middleware, and networking protocols.

Strong C++ skills

Fundamentals of functional test strategies and automation applications

Solid understanding of RTOS concepts

Understanding of DDS, UDP and other networked communication standards.

Experience programming multiprocessor medical devices.

Simulink experience skills

QNX experience

Good understanding of 62304 and regulated will defined SDLC.

Experience in FDA regulated software delivery.

Excellent communication and teaming skills.

Working Conditions:

Standard Office setting in the North Haven, CT with anticipated 20-25% work travel to support contract manufacturing.
