Boston Private Bank & Trust Company Portfolio Advisor I in Boston, Massachusetts


This is a dual role with responsibilities for managing the assets of the underlying portfolios managed by BPW as a Portfolio Advisor while also providing back up trading support for the Director and Senior Equity Trader. The Portfolio Advisor will be responsible for developing an understanding of each investment strategy employed by the firm (proprietary and non-proprietary alike), the company’s asset allocation methodology and will work to implement these strategies continuously on behalf of the client over time. The Portfolio Advisor will be responsible for overseeing investment implementation of a book of accounts with varying objectives; this book of accounts will grow with experience. In addition, the candidate should have a general knowledge of equity trading strategies and a basic understanding of the managed accounts business, and general sponsor information. The primary responsibilities will be to provide intermittent, back up support for day to day transactions in the trading function, including trading new accounts, contributions and withdrawals, and liquidations. In addition, this individual may be tasked with assisting in trade reconciliation.


  • Work with client advisors to structure portfolios of new clients

  • Work with portfolio services and custodial operations to ensure that new accounts are setup in a manner to most effectively implement investment strategy

  • Ensure that BPW investment strategy is efficiently implemented across client portfolios in a timely fashion

  • Implement asset allocation strategy across client portfolios

  • Raise cash and rebalance client portfolios

  • Implement investment objective and strategy changes across client portfolios

  • Process client withdrawals and deposits for all strategies.

  • Trade new accounts, style changes and other various account-level activity against appropriate models

  • Process terminations

  • Process tax harvesting requests

  • Communicate trading restrictions as needed

  • Maintain trading records including those documenting general trade activity trading rotations, process exceptions, resolution of errors, etc.

  • Work with trading/order desks to facilitate transactional and related status activity.


This individual should have at least 1-3 years of experience in an Investment Management environment or equivalent activities. The candidate would ultimately be expected to work toward the CFA designation. The candidate should have some working knowledge of equity trading, back office functionality, and how the client managed account process works. The candidate should enjoy working in an entrepreneurial setting. He or she should be a self-starter and be comfortable with change in the work environment.
