Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a New England Strategic Development Director to identify growth opportunities throughout and with new and existing markets and clients. The District Business Development Director will drive the New England business development strategy and report directly to the New England District Vice President. This position is based out of our Boston Office location. Selected candidates can reside anywhere with in the New England District.

Job duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a close relationship with all New England lines of business. (Transportation & Infrastructure, Buildings, Water & Environment and Energy)

  • Work in concert with the Regional Marketing Managers who are responsible for the region’s marketing execution

  • Identify growth opportunities through new and existing markets and clients and the acquisition of resources and skills and drive growth initiative implementation

  • Plan and implement sales strategies for initiative pipelines (e.g. ballot initiatives or large state or regional funding programs)

  • Mentor in strategic planning, pipeline development and client engagement

  • Collaborate with the national manager of state and local government affairs to supervise the region’s civic engagement program

  • Represent firm through involvement in client and industry events

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • District strategic go to market planning, lead account planning for growth and profit in existing clients and develop and execute "net new client acquision" plans

  • Achieving budgeted business development outcomes

  • Achieving business growth in all markets and services in the district

  • Achieving strong client and stakeholder relationships

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 15+ years’ experience in Engineering Services across mulitple industy sectors

  • Demonstrated experience shaping business strategy

  • Proven business development track record

  • Established client relationships in the district

  • Effective leadership, communication and analysis skills

  • Proven general management skills particularly strategic development, people management and change management

  • Ability to work in a multi-dimensional organization in an open and collaborative manner

  • Proven experience developing and taking to market branded enginerring and professional services

  • Appreciation for the importance of client relationships and delivery of client outcomes

  • Broad knowledge of and experience with technical and project delivery

  • Comfortable in working directly with clients and in the community

  • Understands current and future engineering trends in multiple industry sectors

  • The selected candidate should be committed to firm’s vision, core values and direction, be located in one of the region’s key geographic markets, and have the ability to travel frequently throughout the region.
