General Summary:

The Materials Management Supervisor oversees daily operations for the receipt, handling, distribution, and storage of supplies, equipment, and linen across multiple receiving docks. This role includes planning, organizing, and delegating daily work assignments to designated personnel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the flow of materials into and out of the hospital, addressing customer problems and issues as needed.

  • Plan, organize, and delegate daily work assignments for materials handlers to meet production goals and schedules.

  • Monitor work volume, determine priorities, and respond to urgent requests to ensure effective and accurate flow of goods.

  • Maintain logs, records, and documentation related to receipt, delivery, distribution of materials, and equipment maintenance.

  • Protect materials against damage, deterioration, and theft, logging and securing valuable items and rotating inventory stock per guidelines.

  • Select, train, and supervise department personnel, providing performance feedback, conducting evaluations, and initiating disciplinary actions when necessary.

  • Promote teamwork among Materials Management staff and handle hospital, personal packages, and patient items following confidentiality policies.

  • Enhance knowledge and skills through participation in conferences, seminars, and in-service programs.

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience:

  • Required: 2 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret routine data.

  • Ability to exchange factual information, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and relay messages.

  • Courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and employees, referring more sensitive situations as appropriate.

  • Communication skills to handle conflicting views or issues and mediate situations effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

  • Regular sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, and grasping.

  • Regular fine manipulation with hands, proofreading, and checking documents for accuracy.

  • Regular inputting/retrieving data from an automated/computer system.
