This job will focus on the transporting/receiving department. There is a lot of heavy lifting, pulling, grasping, walking, moving, physical movement in this role. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives materials from vendors and verifies accuracy and count of items received. Identifies and routes items for delivery to final destination. Maintains related documentation.

  • Responds to requests from hospital staff for information regarding deliveries and shipments and expedites orders as necessary.

  • May maintain inventory of medical gases according to required par levels and established schedules. Responds to routine and emergency requests for delivery and retrieval of gas cylinders.

  • Delivers supplies and equipment to hospital locations via hospital vehicle, cart and hand.

  • Maintains professional interactions with customers and materials management staff. Handles hospital and personal packages, mail and patient related items in accordance with established confidentiality policies, procedures and standards.

  • Maintains logs, records and documentation related to various job duties and responsibilities such as the receipt, delivery and distribution of materials and maintenance of equipment. Records information manually or by computer, according to established procedures.

  • Keeps work area neat and orderly and free of fire and safety hazards.

  • Furthers knowledge and skills through attendance and participation at conferences, seminars and in‑service programs.

    Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Work requires a high school education and 1 to 2 years of related work experience.

  • Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions.

  • Work requires the analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine.

  • Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel.

  • Work requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.

    Physical Requirements of the Job

  • Work requires frequently lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing 11 to 20 pounds.

  • Work requires regularly stooping and bending.

  • Work requires regularly reaching and grasping objects below shoulder level, frequently reaching and grasping objects at shoulder level and occasionally reaching and grasping objects above shoulder level.

  • Work requires frequently pushing and/or pulling non‑motorized equipment (e.g., stretcher, food cart, mop, etc.) weighing 11 to 20 pounds and regularly pushing and/or pulling equipment weighing over 50 pounds.

  • Work requires regularly grasping and fine manipulation with hands.

  • Work requires regularly proofreading and checking documents for accuracy and inputting/retrieving words or data into or from an automated/computer system.
