What you'll do here:
This is a position within the global academic marketing team. Gale is looking for an experienced marketing manager who will be responsible for leading the strategy and execution of campaigns for digital products within Gale’s academic database portfolio in key market segments. Working alongside the other marketing manager for subscriptions, this position willl help drive new subscription business and secure renewals for Gale databases within the North American academic market.
The role will support the Sales team with targeted campaigns to academic libraries and instructors highlighting Gale databases to classroom instruction and improving student engagement and outcomes.
The right candidate will apply customer, market, and competitive data to decision-making. They will combine their research and experience to create a measurable and scalable marketing strategy for Gale’s instruction focused digital resources.
To accomplish this, the marketing manager will work closely with product and sales partners as well as their marketing colleagues in the global academic marketing team (based in the US and the UK) to develop messaging strategies. They will work with the US based brand creative services team to develop integrated marketing campaigns which align with business goals. They will deliver a positive return on investment through a number of marketing channels and be proficient in tactics like content marketing, social media and blogging, webinars, collateral, and events.
This role reports to the senior marketing director for the global academic market segment based in the UK.
Collaborate with marketing, brand, product, customer, and sales leads to secure renewals and drive new subscriptions of products
Lead the marketing strategy through a variety of channels, heavily focusing on support and growth. Tactics include optimized web pages, collateral, content, multi-touch emails, social media, webinars, and others.
Coordinate with the Events team to support academic conferences.
Develop sales tools to optimize their conversations with academic librarians and instructors
Contribute to the development of market strategies by staying current with customer and competitive insights, and marketing trends in academic libraries
Develop annual marketing plans and implement agile campaigns for assigned portfolios—on time and within budget.
Advise the targeting and segmentation of projects and ensure we’re reaching libraries and academic instructors with the right message and solution at the right time.
Communicate internally with customers across the business to keep them informed of what’s in market and the available tools to support customer engagement.
Partner with business analysts within marketing, sales, and product to understand the impact of marketing programs on the business, with an eye toward continuous optimization and duplication of successful programs.
Forecast and manage tactical budget for their assigned portfolio.
Skills you will need here:
BA/BS in Marketing or related field.
3 - 5 years of Marketing experience.
Strong understanding of academic market trends, technologies, and integration strategies.
Proven success in managing and completing B2B marketing programs for the academic market.
Experience completing data-driven marketing campaigns; experience with program management and business intelligence software a plus.
Able to remain agile in a fast-paced environment.
Sound digital marketing skills covering email, social, and webpage creation.
Strong copywriting skills and basic design skills.
The creativity and resourcefulness needed to build content strategies that balance user needs with business requirements.
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Able to travel as needed to conferences and customer events.
Actively involved in the social media space, with a proven understanding of how to use social media tools to effectively listen, communicate, and build relationships.
Preferred:
Involvement in the education, publishing, and/or information industry market(s).
Experience engaging with academic students
Familiarity with SEO/SEM, project management, Eloqua, Adobe Creative Suite and/or other design programs, CRM, and/or analytical platforms.
Experience partnering with creative services, freelance/contractors, agency partners or other vendors to develop marketing campaigns.

Base Pay Range
The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
$55,500.00 - $88,800.00 USD
