We are looking for a skilled Principal Technical PM, Manager to serve as a “player-coach” style leader for our US based TPM team serving the Financial Services Industry in the US. Each TPM helps drive high-impact engineering projects with Financial Services Industry customers and their partners who are transforming their missions using cloud-based solutions and services. They work as part of Dev Crews (DC), which are cross-functional teams of PMs, Software Engineers and Data Scientists, fulfilling the Product Owner role. In this capacity, TPMs identify and define the relevant customer scenarios, orchestrate the engineering approach to address these, and develop the end-to-end user stories with internal and external stakeholders.

You will partner with other CSE Engineering stakeholders and other customer stakeholders inside and outside Microsoft to establish the right engagements for CSE to engage, help prioritize product backlog and jointly help drive product execution.

The role will be based in New York or Boston/Cambridge.


In this role you will be working across all key parts of Financial Services such as Banking, Capital Markets & Insurance. You will own the strategy for Financial Services solution feature sets and run the backlog, be an advocate for our customers building on your understanding of Financial Services Industry “tradecraft” – the unique ways in which we need to work with our FSI Customers.

You will work directly on projects and in parallel coach/mentor a group of mostly senior/principal level TPMs to:

  • Drive customer engagements to deliver well-defined products that generate immediate customer value and high-quality, broadly applicable software contributions to Microsoft products and to open-source communities.

  • Land Financial Services Industry prioritised engineering scenarios adoption through leading engagements, sharing reusable assets, and fostering cross-industry collaboration.

  • Serve as Product Owner, managing project plans, in partnership with domain Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the organization.

  • Lead communications with our customers, within the team and SMEs to represent our customers’ requirements, triage and prioritize customer feedback, ensure clarity within the CSE working team and actionable intelligence for our product teams.

  • Continuously drive excellence in program management fundamentals to continually build our shared best-practices.

You will also have specific responsibility for:

Candidates must have a solid foundation in Engineering PM fundamentals based on experience of program management and/or product development in the software industry. Prior experience as a team lead for engineering PMs is highly valued.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 10+ years’ experience as a Technical Program Manager, Technical Product Manager, or Development Lead, leading communication directly with customers, issue management to resolution and presenting projects to key stakeholders, including customer executives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of working with large engineering teams including experience shipping complex production systems that run on a public cloud and hybrid public/on-prem solutions.

  • A strong working knowledge of AGILE software development methodologies and especially the role of Product Owner.

  • Executive communication, influencing and coaching across organization.

  • Experience leading complex customer engineering engagements and effectively managing internal and external relationships with senior technical and business stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of cloud, edge and other computing technologies, including business drivers and emerging trends across Microsoft and non-Microsoft technologies, combined with knowledge of best practices in cloud architecture.

  • Experience working in geographically dispersed, highly diverse, virtual team environments with an ability to orchestrate high-performing engineering teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication ability including fluency in English

  • Enjoy travel and comfortable with regional travel up to 25%
