At Viral Vector Services (VVS) a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific we offer and deliver, from process development through commercial supply, the expertise and resources to help clients deliver innovative gene therapies. Placed in the forefront of our leading Cell and Gene Therapy business enabling clients to cure genetic, rare, and otherwise untreatable diseases.


Cambridge, MA - This is not a remote based role. Will require regular travel to all MA based sites.

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Onboarding and Training is a people leader and specialist in the development, facilitation and supervision of training programs that ensure colleagues are successful in their role. This position collaborates across all VVS sites to build training plans that align with organizational objectives and facilitate a wide variety of trainings that improve the efficiency of the workforce. Coordinates the new colleague orientation program, drives brand value, and ensures a smooth transition into the workplace.

To ensure success the successful candidate will understand the business operation and decision-making processes with a keen interest in producing targeted and tangible results by creating an effective and efficient workforce.

What will you do?

  • Lead a team to develop, implement, and facilitate individualized and group programs that address business needs and demonstrate regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure employees possess the knowledge and skills needed for effective job performance.

  • Collaborate with site training teams to identify and assess learning needs.

  • Develop training matrices, curricula and processes that facilitate strategic training and support organizational goals.

  • Implement effective and purposeful training methods.

  • Assess employees' skills, performance, and efficiency to identify areas of improvement.

  • Support regulatory inspections as well as external and internal audits.

How will you get here?


  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, organizational development, life sciences, industrial psychology or a related field - required. A master's degree preferred in a training/development field.


  • 6-8+ years of work experience in training, teaching, instructional design or other learning/development field in a corporate, scientific and/or biotech manufacturing environment.

  • Experience leading a team using adult learning theory and a full complement of training methods to deliver an excellent employee learning experience.

  • Strong experience working in ISO or cGMP operations developing and executing successful training programs including the implementation of skills qualification programs and developing training materials for qualification processes.

  • Proven track record to manage cross-functionally and collaborate across the business as well as to present ideas persuasively.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Expertise in cGMP, safety and regulatory agency regulations, and documentation practices including experience presenting to and interacting with regulatory agencies and auditing bodies.

  • Proficient at public speaking, teaching and facilitating to peers, staff, and management for different operational groups.

  • Ability to function in a dynamic fast-paced environment and balance multiple priorities.

  • Innovative problem solver, strong decision-maker and outstanding facilitator of learning and change.
