  • Helping develop and implement the Hospital’s strategy for engaging local elected and appointed officials in Boston and major satellite communities to enhance the Hospital’s reputation as an active and engaged civic partner that is responsive to local concerns and needs. Creating and implementing a proactive outreach schedule.

  • Implementing a civic engagement strategy in alignment with the Hospital’s community mission, including environment/sustainability. Identifying opportunities for Hospital leadership involvement. Creating and implementing a proactive outreach schedule.

  • Collaborating with the Office of Community Health and satellite leaders to assure local officials and civic leaders are aware of the hospital’s community initiatives within their localities. Ensuring widespread awareness of the Hospital’s community partnerships work both internally and externally. Participating in the Hospital’s Community Advisory Board staffed by the Office of Community Health

  • Supporting regulatory approval processes related to Hospital facility development in Boston and satellite communities including zoning/master planning, housing/jobs linkage and determination of need processes.

  • Identifying emerging local policy and political issues and informing senior leadership of opportunities, concerns, and formal processes occurring.

  • Representing the Hospital on local civic initiatives, coalitions and workgroups as identified by the Vice President of Government Relations and Director of State Government Relations.

  • Setting objectives and metrics to assess impact, evaluates results, and utilizing lessons learned to inform future efforts. Managing systems to track engagement with local officials and civic organizations.

  • Supporting senior staff in maintaining relationships with local city officials and civic/business organizations including, but not limited to: local Chambers of Commerce, the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, and the Longwood Collective. Helping staff senior leaders in formal roles on boards and committees.

  • Co-managing the Hospital’s corporate and community giving.

  • Responding to constituent requests from elected and appointed officials.

  • Working closely with the Manager of Community Partnerships to address shared priorities.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Work requires a working knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in political science, public policy, public relations/communications or public health or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Work requires a minimum of 3-4 years of previous work experience in public policy, political/community organizing or government relations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the neighborhoods, issues and people of Boston, including understanding of principles of representation, health equity, social determinants of health and collective impact.

  • Experience in a complex organizational environment that demonstrates ability to manage issues, people and relationships.

  • Work requires the knowledge of effective strategies to address the community's needs.

  • Work requires a high level of communication (written and verbal) and group facilitation skills to facilitate collaboration among diverse parties toward a common set of objectives.
