Manager, Marketing Decision Support

Cengage is on a mission to make every student a confident learner and we are looking for a Manager of Marketing Decision Support to help achieve that goal. In this role, you will be responsible for translating data into insight and action in support of our customer-centered optimization strategy. The ideal manager is an experienced process improvement professional and a practitioner of data-driven decision making and the use of data to drive process improvement. This player-coach will lead a team of analysts, each aligned to specific customer journey stages, and attend to the end-to-end optimization of our customer journey. Are you excited by the promise of understanding demand generation as a process to be optimized, carefully attending to customer satisfaction and ROI? Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing Operations, you will help bring process thinking and continual improvement to Marketing, for the benefit of our US Higher Education customers.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Lead a team of analysts that optimize each stage of the customer journey, synthesizing their insights to prioritize improvements end-to-end, and continually strengthen overall marketing capability and return on investment.

  • Act as player-coach, ensuring consistency in analytic methodologies and reporting, and sharpening marketer skills in using business process improvement as a strategic advantage in marketing.

  • You’ll mentor your team in improvement methodology, help them translate qualitative to quantitative data, creatively address data gaps and drive decision-making rigor, applying well-constructed hypotheses and expertly executing well-structured testing plans.

  • Establish your track record of results and emphasize these to establish confidence around marketing contribution. Partner with the VP of Marketing Operations to influence additional data development efforts and accelerate the team’s impact.

  • Proactively identify data integrity issues for marketing operations and Cengage’s central technology and data teams and provide insight to help address them.

Skills You Will Need Here

Basic (Required)

  • High energy self-starter, comfortable acting as a player-coach on the team

  • Comfortable setting clear expectations and coaching team and peers in process improvement methodologies

  • Bachelor’s degree and a solid foundation in statistical concepts

  • Minimum of 3 years of analytic experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and structured problem-solving skills

  • Skill with analytic tools ranging from relational databases and SQL to Excel

  • Ability to tell a clear story with data and translate to business and customer implications

  • Ability to create effective presentations, tailored to different audiences

Preferred

  • Black Belt or Green Belt certification in Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma

  • Experience in Marketing Analytics specifically, including Web analytics, and Google Analytics.

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and Looker.

  • Experience in the structure and assessment of A/B tests to support continual optimization.

  • Experience instructing statistical concepts to others

  • Experience using sampling techniques to monitor and analyze performance
