State of Massachusetts Health Communications Specialist in Boston, Massachusetts

The Department of Public Health (DPH), Bureau of Community Health and Prevention (BCHAP) isseekingacreative and organizedHealth Communications Specialist toassistwith both internal and external communications for the Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program(MTCP). Reporting to the Senior Health Communication Specialist, the Health Communication Specialist will support MTCP staff in efforts toprevent the initiation of tobacco use by youth, help tobacco users to quit, protectMassachusetts residents from exposure to secondhand smoke, andidentifyandeliminatecommercial tobacco-related inequities.MTCP acknowledges the history of structural racism and its impact on health. We are committed to improving the quality of life for all Commonwealth residents whileeliminatingthe inequities that threaten the lives of all, but particularly impact communities of color who are disproportionately affected by chronic diseases and their risk factors, includingcommercialtobacco use and exposure. _Duties and Responsibilities(these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive)_: * Assistwithoverallcommunication strategy and implementation for the Programas well as message, material,and campaign development and dissemination, as needed * Draft, post, andmonitormonthly social media content. * Monitor program email and triage requests and inquiries. * Maintain mass.gov webpages, including periodic review for data, links, language, and framing updates. * Oversee program materials inthe MA Health Promotion Clearinghouse, including assessing stock and the need for material updates and revisions. * In collaboration with Program staff, createsetof tools for use in presenting basic information about topic areas and programs (slide presentations, stock paragraphs, message sheets, etc.). * Schedule team-wide meetings,andassistwith creating agendas,and taking and distributingmeeting notes. * Assistwith organization and maintenance of program files – help develop and implement electronic filing system andmaintainexisting paper files, including destruction schedule of files. * Assistwith procurementsandgrant applications and reporting. * Assist MTCP Director and/or Deputy Director with monthly compilation of program highlights for both internal and external sources. /Required Qualifications:/ * Ability to maintain accurate records. * Means to write concisely to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence. * Capacity to follow written and oral instructions. * Skilled to communicate effectively in oral expression. * Capability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others. * Able to exercise sound judgment. ** Preferred Qualifications: * Interest in or previous experience with health communications. * Solid understanding of social determinants of health and a commitment to health equity, particularly racial equity. * Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook. * Experience writing for and posting to social media platforms in a professional environment. Experience with Hootsuite desired. * Experience working in a collaborative team environment. * Comfort working on projects with limited oversight. * Organized, detail-oriented, and thorough in all aspects of work. *About the Department of Public Health:* The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth.
