Role Summary/Purpose

This role will be largely providing on-site technical direction to customer-owned utility and industrial power plants for their Turbine Generator Systems. The primary responsibility of the Generator Specialist Technical Field Advisor (TFA), is to safely accomplish the maintenance and repair of the heavy duty generators used in power generation applications. Generator Specialists are responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents, P&ID’s, troubleshooting of plant systems, outage planning; as well as directing labor, tools and materials to complete work scopes according to contractual requirements.

Essential Function

  • Lead execution of projects, including: visual test and inspections, electrical test and inspections, field and stator rewinds, and other general repairs

  • Perform inspection and testing of the generator field and stator utilizing the latest technology. (MAGIC Jr. & Sr. inspection, Digital/Analog EL-CID, Flush and Bake skid (FAB), Quick skid, Capacitance Mapping, Tracer Gas, Vacuum Decay, Pressure Decay, 60 Hertz AC HIPOT test set, Wedge Tapping, Computer Based Reporting tool), Epoxy Injection, UT Flow, Hazmat training and other topics as business needs arise

  • Responsible for directing craft labor and winders during repairs and Inspections

  • Sign off on procedure, quality, and inspection documentation

  • Pre-outage planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures

  • Recognize, Predict and document potential generator failures.

  • Present to the customer accurate generator quality issues as presented and selected by Generator Product Service and regional generator specialists.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant equipment installation/commissioning

  • Working knowledge of basic electrical circuits, electrical troubleshooting, power Circuit Breakers, Protective Relay Systems, and AC and DC Motors / Generators

  • Working knowledge and application of current industry safety standards and EHS rules.

  • Ability to read technical documents; such as manufacturing drawings, P&IDs, and schematic drawings

  • The ability to manage relationships with customers, concerning basic technical aspects of a project

  • The ability to lift safely a minimum of 50 pounds, perform other physical work-related activities, and wear personal safety protection equipment (PPE)

  • Employees must be prepared to work in different shifts, as required, to safely complete the assignment.

  • Extensive domestic and/or international travel to projects for various field assignments is required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Technical/University degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathmatics

  • Experience and training on Alstom, Siemans, or another OEM equipment is preferred

  • Secondary competencies in turbine mechanical or controls are desired

  • Strong project management and organizational skills; including written and oral communication abilities

  • Can use the latest electronic communication, references, and documentation technologies.
