AECOM has been awarded the 5-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract providing production and technical services for the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) program from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Under this contract, AECOM provides engineering and other technical services nationwide, including production of effective, flexible and sustainable Risk MAP products to develop and implement tools to protect the United States from floods and other related hazardous conditions.

The Engineer 1 will be involved in managing the Coordinated Needs Management Strategy (CNMS) inventory. The CNMS is a national database that is used by FEMA to track the health and status of floodplain mapping studies as part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This person will be an integral part of the team, utilizing their knowledge of GIS, Hydrology & Hydraulics, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and problem solving skills to support our client. That candidate will also work detailed and approximate modeling for riverine floodplain mapping studies for developing Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

The successful candidate for the Engineer 1 position requires an in-depth knowledge of Hydrology and Hydraulics (or coursework supporting knowledge of H&H) to support on-going CNMS projects and assess. The successful candidate will need to thrive in an often times fast-paced environment and provide a broad range of floodplain mapping skills, including 1D and 2D modeling.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assess the validity of existing riverine flood studies using a 16 step process

  • Support natural disasters incidents when they occur

  • Familiarity with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), FEMA Flood Insurance Studies, especially historical reporting requirements for DFIRM studies, MT-2, and other related studies is preferred

  • Be able to facilitate, plan, organize and manage all requests from the CNMS management

  • Prepare and maintain internal and external project documentation

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree – preferably in a related field

  • Excellent quantitative and presentation skills, using software such as MS Excel and MS Power Point to organize and analyze data

  • US citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in related field specific to the water industry (ie: floodplain mapping, water resource engineering, coastal, hydrographic, H&H modeling, AutoCAD)

  • Familiarity with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA Flood Insurance Studies

  • Be dynamic, personable and highly self-motivated and able to work on a team

  • Have exceptional customer service orientation

  • Have a strong written and oral communication skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Strong familiarity with GIS Production environment

  • CFM and/or GISP certification (or ability to get within 6 months of hire)
