Meta Energy Manager, Strategy (Markets and Policy) in Boston, Massachusetts

Summary:

Facebook’s energy program drives thousands of megawatts of renewable energy onto electric grids around the world and creates the regulatory and policy efforts required to support them. Facebook’s Energy Team is seeking an experienced energy professional with a deep background in regional and federal energy regulation and policy to help us expand our energy work to an even larger scale while maintaining a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy supply for our global footprint. The Energy Manager will support the continued development and execution of Facebook’s global energy strategy centered on system wide decarbonization that supports Facebook’s operational objectives and consistent with the company’s overall strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will have experience working on policy issues in both regulated and deregulated markets; approaches to market design, expansion and ratemaking; familiarity with RTO and FERC processes; and, importantly, an individual drive to learn more about these topics.

Required Skills:

Energy Manager, Strategy (Markets and Policy) Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute federal and regional advocacy strategies, with broad internal and external stakeholder consultation.

  2. Monitor and report on RTO market design changes, policy developments, including both legislation and federal regulatory activities.

  3. Analyze legislation and regulatory activity and its potential impacts on the company’s decarbonization goals and operational footprint.

  4. Coordinate and maintain relationships with internal partners including sustainability, policy, legal, and others.

  5. Build external relationships with other energy policy professionals in the industry, in the NGO community, and in government

  6. and participate in trade associations and industry coalition work.

  7. Work with Facebook’s Energy Managers to bolster existing market design options through new analysis or to create new market design options where needed.

  8. Ability to travel domestically, as needed (up to 10%).

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a Public Policy, Law, Economics or a technical discipline focused on energy.

  2. 8+ years working experience in energy markets with an energy intensive customer, a consulting firm, a market design firm, an electric utility, a technology provider, or similar.

  3. Experience in state and federal regulatory and legislative proceedings related to electricity.

  4. Experience working with broad stakeholder groups including electric utilities, clean energy providers, resource providers, regulators or legislators.

  5. Experience with key components of market design including federal/state mandates for clean energy, electric rate design, transmission planning, and wholesale market design.

  6. Experience analyzing and translating legislative and regulatory language into operational impacts. Experience interpreting the political landscape around such issues.

  7. Excel, Powerpoint and/or Keynote experience.
