Objective / Purpose:

The Research Strategy and Operations function is responsible for integrating scientific acumen with business analytics and processes to deliver clear business plans, operational excellence and portfolio progression for the Takeda Research pipeline.

The Director, Research Portfolio Strategy is a key member of the Research Portfolio Management team that is charged with enabling the execution Research strategy and decision-making through data-driven insights and scenario planning, leveraging digital and AI for transformation. The team optimizes the overall Research portfolio by working closely with Research leaders, providing expertise for asset strategy, monitoring program team performance, and enabling strategic governance. Drives prioritization initiatives, governance, and milestones, ensuring access to relevant portfolio and program data for proactive conversations with Research Leadership Team. Delivers competitive intelligence and portfolio data views to Research Leadership Team, interface with the internal governance bodies and global portfolio team and driving ongoing business development.

Accountabilities:

  • Develops and implements frameworks for tracking, analytics, and visualization of key metrics to guide the Research portfolio.

  • Utilizes AI and digital tools to enhance decision-making capabilities in portfolio management, ensuring effective integration and usability across the organization.

  • Supports regular portfolio reviews to assess project progress, identify risks and opportunities, and make data-driven recommendations for optimizing the portfolio.

  • Implements and maintains advanced portfolio management tools, methodologies, and dashboards to support effective decision-making and ensure seamless communication across the organization.

  • Collaborates with finance and resource management teams to ensure optimal allocation of resources, including budget, personnel, and infrastructure, supporting the Research portfolio.

  • Monitors and analyzes external market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory developments to inform portfolio management strategies and explore potential partnerships or licensing opportunities.

  • Promotes a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the portfolio management team, encouraging the adoption of best practices and knowledge sharing.

  • Leads initiatives to enhance portfolio management process under direction of Head of Portfolio

Education & Competencies:

  • Expected 10 years related experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with working knowledge of research and development and commercial operations.

  • Expected 5 years drug development experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology with interdisciplinary global experience with complex projects including program leadership, strategy and execution and matrix team management.

  • Proven ability to respectfully challenge and influence senior leaders

  • Expertise in competitive portfolio landscapes in Takeda therapeutic areas

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide strategic direction and drive results.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.S., or equivalent) in a scientific discipline preferred

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$169,400.00 - $266,200.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
