Job Summary
The Director, Program Management will lead Program Management across the global organization. They will drive the development, execution, and tracking of integrated project plans and cross-functional team for Rhythm assets. The scope will include research, development, and commercial stage projects/programs. As Rhythm continues to grow, the incumbent may have direct reports to manage and develop into skilled program/project managers. The role reports into the CTO.
Rhythm values the face-to-face interactions we have while in the office and currently operates in a hybrid work model for Boston-based roles.
Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the definition of program team plans including evaluating, optimizing, and planning of alternative development plans and associated operational scenarios
Lead development of program critical path, decision criteria and milestones/decision gates
Prioritize deliverables and align across functions
Develop/ensure accuracy of program team timelines, align with each line function’s plan
Leadership to establish annual team goals in alignment with Corporate Goals
Drive process and accountabilities for creation of key cross functional deliverables
Track and drive program deliverables across all functions
Ensure that potential budget, timeline and strategy variances are proactively brought forth from functions; assess options for tradeoffs within overall budget, timeline, and strategy
Lead team to prepare and implement cross functional program risk management plans including, risk and opportunity identification and assessment, mitigation strategies and contingency planning
Propose plans/strategies that result in de-risking the overall program
Ensure alternative development options are thoroughly evaluated, including pros, cons, and risks
Lead operational aspects of program team: chartering, agendas, driving and documentation of actions and decisions, meeting facilitation, timelines, overviews, etc.
Lead cross functional teams; lead cross functional interactions between global and functional teams
Manage and archive project and program information
Conduct and implement key lessons learned and after-action reviews as appropriate to the program/team
Drive program teams towards the delivery of project milestones on time, budget, and within scope through utilization of project management tools.
Create a culture of high performing teams with clear accountabilities, robust scientific debate, and respectful interactions that foster trust.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in scientific area and/or business or financial management preferred, advanced degree preferred
Pharma/biotech experience with demonstrated success in leading programs with proven results and effective leadership and management skills
10+ years of related education and role specific experience
Demonstrated program management expertise and experience; project management certification preferred
Demonstrated success in leading through influence
Demonstrated ability to integrate information and apply creative thinking and proactive problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to identify, build, and implement solutions to cross functional team issues
Excellent balanced approach to process versus results-driven leadership and management skills
Excellent negotiating skills; influencing skills up, down and across the organization
Scientifically adept, great communication skills, knowledge of drug development, strategic, organized, and experience with project management tools
This role is based out of our Corporate office in Boston, Massachusetts. Rhythm’s operates in a hybrid-work model. Candidates applying must be willing and able to be in the Boston office in coordination with their department and business needs.
