Director of Product Management

The Director of Product Management works closely with the Senior Director, Product Team, to define the product strategy, including technical architecture and technology solutions, and our overarching customer-centric vision. This person will work in a scaled environment and with the latest technologies and software best practices, creating products that can be deployed across several markets. The person helps document and demonstrate our digital offerings for colleagues as well as current and potential customers. Also, the Director holds the responsibility of conducting market research; generating product functional and non-functional requirements; determining specifications and production timetables for product introduction; and contributing to marketing strategies and marketing content.

The position requires significant internal and external thought leadership and the ability to influence across a wide variety of functions / roles. The individual in this position should be viewed as a skilled product management professional with strong knowledge of the market, client, competition, and offerings for the business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction regarding nature and scope of present and future products by reviewing product specifications and requirements, appraising new product ideas and/or product changes in relation to existing on-market offerings.

  • Bring new product features to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development initiatives; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with Engineering Teams.

  • Determine customers' needs through external data gathering and analysis, conference attendance, pre-demonstration requirements gathering, meetings with customers, and collaboration with the Commercial Team.

  • Create and maintain multi-generational product roadmap detailing specific features requested from customers.

  • Interacts with varying levels of internal and external stakeholders including direct client communication and public presentation. Exhibits outstanding presentation, communication, and writing skills, with the ability to inspire through persuasive presentation of information.

  • Lead a geographically diverse Product Management Team, while building a culture of excellence within the team.

  • Supports a learning culture of continuous improvement by identifying and actively participating in and/or leading process improvement and change management initiatives as needed.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Software Engineering, Marketing, Services & Support, and Commercial in support of market and commercial expectations and deliverables.

  • Work with Commercial and Services & Support Teams in completing responses to requests for product information and proposals.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in related science, engineering, or IT field is required: Computer Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering.

  • MBA or equivalent experience is highly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of product management experience in a scientific application software environment.

  • Ability to provide strategic direction for software development and clearly articulate the product vision to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with Scientific Data Management software including Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex, and long-lasting products in the market.

  • Experience with and understanding of laboratory processes, methods and workflows.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Agile Software Development and regulated processes.

  • Self-starter who is highly collaborative, energized working in entrepreneurial culture, creative and organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven track record in meeting aggressive deadlines and building relationships with adjacent teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize results in a clear, concise, accurate manner.

  • Ability to travel as needed.
