Alexion Pharmaceuticals Director, Patient Access Strategy in Boston, Massachusetts

The Director, Patient Access Strategy, will drive the Alexion patient access strategy for all US approved products. The patient access strategy is intended to ensure patients have access to therapy via needed support programs and services which will support patient acquisition and retention, including compliance, by removing non-clinical barriers to therapy. The specific focus for this role is: Reimbursement Services, Financial Assistance Programs, Vaccination Support, and Healthcare Reform’s impact to patients. This role will own the development, implementation, and management (including any external vendors) for these programs for current products as well as future launches. This role will provide critical strategic leadership within Patient Services and across Alexion's Commercial organization.
The Director, Patient Access Strategy, will drive the overarching strategy for Alexion's Financial Assistance and Reimbursement programs including purpose, design, approval, implementation, and ongoing management. The role will partner closely with PS leadership and cross-functional partners on the development and management of the programs.
Lead the process to design and recommend patient access strategies that are aligned to brand objectives, patient needs, and commercial goals
Work with launch teams to understand needed strategies and support for new products including pre-policy access strategies developed in partnership with Market Access.
Establish, and maintain cross-functional partnership with Market Access, Marketing, Patient Services, and Government Affairs to create tactics supporting business critical strategies associated with the Affordable Care Act and other insurance landscape evolutions. Partner with key stakeholders to create a vision and measures of success of how new insurance opportunities can drive overall patient health, access to therapy via insurance, and overall brand success.
Follow changes to business environment to understand their impact on existing programs or the need for new programs including eligibility, support levels, and program scope
Manage existing programs including vendor management, business rules, KPIs, and success factors to understand areas of continued improvement
Monitor the US healthcare environment in close partnership with Market Access, Government Affairs, and others to understand environmental factors and their impact to patients Work with PS Operational Leaders on the successful implementation, training, and day to day execution of the different support programs
Collaborate with Market Access Team to understand payer access strategies for Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid books of business and its impact on patient access tactics
Design programs in partnership with Legal and Compliance partners to ensure full compliance in all programs and offerings
Proactively monitor and communication information and results to all cross-functional partners to allow for informed business decisions and discussions
Manage related projects and provide guidance to others internal and external
10+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience
5+ years of Patient Services experience,
5+ years of Reimbursement and Financial Assistance experience,
5+ years of Leadership experience is strongly preferred.
Able to lead large, cross-functional effort with minimal oversight
Experience using critical thinking to align corporate strategies and current challenges to develop recommendations
Understanding of current legal environment for financial assistance and free drug programs
Passion for patient-centric strategies
Experience with team leadership, working across groups, and presenting to leadership
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills, knowledge of business protocol, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously.
Ability to work independently.
Bachelor’s Degree required
Advanced degree a plus
