Develops, directs, plans and evaluates all marketing policies to meet the organization’s objectives.

The Director of Marketing builds all aspects of the Health Language(HL) marketing strategy and marketing plan and ensures the execution all marketing tactics, leading to successful achievement of the business’s revenue results. The Director of Marketing will be responsible for Market Research, Product Marketing, Marketing Communications, Digital Marketing, Marketing Operations and Trade Show Management for the Health Language product portfolios. The Director of Marketing manages a team of marketing professionals and partners with Health Division marketing and communication resources along with outside vendor partners and other Health Language resources to build and execute the Health Language marketing plan. The Director of Marketing reports to the General Manager of the Health Language operating unit and is a member of the Senior Leadership team.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

The Director of Marketing will have the following responsibilities:

Lead a world-class marketing organization that supports the marketing objectives of the Health Language business Lead the development and ensure execution of the marketing strategy, plan and tactics for Health Language Set, administer and adhere to the marketing budget for the HL operating unit and ensure alignment to Wolters Kluwer and Health Division business strategy. Champion and nurture key relationships with vendors, channel partners, and industry analysts. Oversee the execution of strategic marketing including market segmentation, market sizing, market research, competitive analysis, analyst relations, government relations, and portfolio management for all HL products. Oversee the preparation of the Vision and Strategic Plan (VSP) on an annual basis for the HL operating unit Oversee a product marketing team that develops go-to-market plans, customer messaging, competitive positioning, pricing, value proposition, and sales support (e.g. training, customer presentations, and RFP support) for all HL products. Partner with Product Management to ensure messaging and product marketing aligns with product strategy. Direct the activities of marketing communications staff to ensure outstanding execution of marketing communications including public relations, thought leadership, media outreach, content management, graphic design, and development of sales collateral and presentations for all HL products. Drive demand generation activities including all marketing campaigns, trade shows and other lead development activities Ensure an accurate lead scoring process using marketing automation and manage the inside sales team to convert Marketing Qualified Leads to Sales Opportunities Build and share marketing analytics to measure and continuously improve marketing performance against targets Oversee the design and execution of Customer Retention and New Customer Acquisition Marketing Programs by marketing staff to achieve Operating Unit renewal rate and pipeline growth targets. Direct the activities of marketing operations including utilization and optimization of website, marketing automation tools, CRM, marketing campaigns (i.e. webinars, email campaigns, and tradeshows) as well as measurement and reporting of marketing activities for all HL products. Oversee branding and re-branding programs for HL solutions in conjunction with new product and platform launches. Oversee the implementation of new marketing tools such as Marketo, Conductor, Google Analytics and Survey Monkey to facilitate the execution and performance of Marketing programs Oversee the Net Promoter Score program for HL Solutions Lead the effort to improve the Digital Marketing Maturity of HL and the annual measurement process for that program. Lead all internal communications for HL including employee newsletters, product launch announcements and internal organizational announcements. Represent HL marketing function for WK cross-functional teams, projects, and communications with Division and Global leadership and strategy teams. Coach and mentor high-potential team members, ensuring career development and maximum use of the organization’s talents.

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Healthcare, Computer Science, or related discipline required.

  • A Master’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field is strongly preferred.(MBA preferred).

  • In-depth understanding of all components of marketing. 15+ years of experience including marketing, market research, competitive analysis, strategy, product/project management, planning, forecasting, budgeting, execution, measurement and course-correction.

  • 5+ years in technology and/or healthcare. Experience marketing technologically complex solutions to a non-technical audience preferred.

  • Successful track record of working with high-level executives, both internally and within partner and customer organizations.

  • Experience in managing and motivating high-impact cross-functional (direct report and matrix) teams.

  • Prior experience in sales or in another role that required working closely with customers.

  • Proven analytical and creative capabilities, including the ability to understand technology, use data/statistics and to creatively approach challenging circumstances.

  • A thorough understanding of financial principles, including the implications (from the company’s and customer’s perspectives) of pricing models on the P&L, statements of cash-flow and the balance sheet. A complete understanding of financial concepts, including return on investment, payback period, etc.

  • Experience delivering a variety of pricing models to the market, including capital purchase, operating lease, capital lease, subscription, pay-per-click, etc.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including one on one and group presentation skills.

  • Highly organized, will excellent time management skills.
