Alexion is currently seeking a Head of Leadership Strategy and Design based in Boston, MA. In partnership with strategic capability consultants and HR Executive Partners, this individual will build and implement world class, differentiating global leadership capabilities that enable Alexion’s strategy based on customer-centricity, innovation, value creation and changing lives, and to create the most rewarding company to work for.

In this role, this individual will set strategy and lead the design and implementation of world class global leadership programs including succession planning, leadership assessments, executive coaching, leadership development programs and leadership communities.

This individual will partner heavily with the Head of Talent Strategy and Design, HR Executive Partners, Employee Experience Leader, People and Culture Partners, leader of Executive Recruiting and External Talent Pipelining, business leaders, and external vendors to strategize, build out and implement global leadership programs.

This individual will report directly to the VP Talent Strategy and Planning. The position is located in Boston, MA. Global travel of 10% will be required particularly as we seek to co-develop and implement new programs across our global locations.


  • Lead strategy and process/program development to establish world class leadership capabilities at Alexion and differentiate Alexion through Leadership

  • Lead audit of Alexion’s leadership programs/practices to drive strategy toward building world class capabilities in leadership

  • Ensure Alexion’s differentiated Leadership Profile is embedded in all talent and leadership practices

  • Develop the Alexion Leadership Development suite of offerings/academies/training, leveraging external design and delivery partners

  • Ensure talent review and talent planning processes focus on leadership capability true to differentiated profile and brand identity

  • Ensure Alexion’s brand identity of world-class leadership capability is measured and reinforced through both internal and external channels

  • Drive the strategy for leadership assessments and measurement

  • Manage leadership assessment data for analysis and predictive abilities

  • Manage network of executive coaches toward highly-differentiated and high-impact coaching

  • At least 10 years of experience in Leadership/Organizational Development

  • Demonstrated passion to be part of a mission-driven, customer-focused, organization

  • Thought leader mentor and coach for HR and business leaders on talent challenges

  • Has a strong point of view about leadership challenges influencing healthcare key stakeholders – payers, patients, etc.

  • Develops a clear view of organization, capability, and talent gaps and moves quickly to resolve them

  • Demonstrated progressive thought-leadership in areas of Leadership and Talent

  • Expertise in adult learning and leadership and management development

  • Experience with design thinking methods and practices to optimize customer/employee experiences

  • Experience partnering with external consultancies to build strategies, learning methods, executive development programs, and communications

  • Entrepreneurship mindset, accountability, agility, overcoming obstacles and focus on action and implementation

  • Proven success at building strong, credible advisory relationships and communities at all levels of the organization

  • Able to communicate succinctly and powerfully with Senior Management; stellar oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent program management skills and ability to engage multiple stakeholders from design to implementation

  • Entrepreneurship mindset, accountability, agility, overcoming obstacles and focus on action and implementation

  • Consulting experience preferred

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical/ biotech preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, advanced degree and/or professional certifications preferred

  • Master’s in organization development or behavior or equivalent experience (i.e. B.S. with 8 – 12 years of OD experience)
