The Deputy Director of Occupational Health & Safety is a safety-sensitive senior management position reporting to the Chief Environment and Health Officer and will assist the Chief Safety Officer, and Safety Department in developing, implementing, and monitoring the MBTA?s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Programs, Policies, and Procedures to comply with Federal and State regulations and conform with industry best practices. Duties & Responsibilities Assist, support, and take direction from the Chief Safety Officer and Chief Environment and Heath Officer in carrying out MBTA?s goals for employee health and safety. Manage and oversee OHS and workplace safety programs across the organization. Provide effective direction, supervision, leadership, project management, and oversight to a team of MBTA employees, consultants, and contractors working to develop, implement, and monitor multiple workplace safety programs simultaneously, on an accelerated timeline. Oversee and direct investigations of occupational injuries, illnesses, incidents, and near miss events; and prepare and submit required reports and correspondence to Mass Department of Labor Standards (DLS) and other applicable regulatory agencies. Lead the MBTA?s OHS data program activities, including the ongoing compilation, analysis, verification, presentation, and reporting of sensitive safety data related to employee injuries, incidents, near misses, workplace hazards, and other OHS events. Oversee facility inspection program and tracking of resulting recommendations, safety improvements, and corrective actions. Oversee MBTA Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Program. Monitor organizational compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as MBTA policies, procedures, and programs, and industry best practices related to OHS. Represent MBTA Safety on a variety of interdepartmental boards, committees, and working groups. Prepare specialized reports, including Hazard Assessments, System Safety Assessments, and Root Cause Analyses to identify direct or contributing factors and recommend mitigations and corrective actions. Assist with directing and coordinating with all Authority departments to ensure that all safety-related activities conducted by departments are performed in accordance with the MBTA Safety Plan, OHS Safety Plan, and other program documents, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Support the Chief Safety Officer, Chief Environment and Health Officer, and management within MBTA Safety, including in the management of all MBTA Safety personnel.
