Chewy Controls Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

  • Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Controls Engineer for its Fulfillment Automation Team in Boston, MA. In this role you will be a key member of the technology team that researches, develops, tests, and deploys scalable industrial automation, robotics, and warehouse control systems to support the growth of Chewy’s fulfillment operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and develop industrial automation and robotic systems to be deployed at scale

  • Design, implement, test, and document control system programs (PLC/HMI/SCADA) using modular and reusable programming techniques

  • Collaborate with Hardware and Software teams in component specifications, system integrations, testing, installation, and commissioning.

  • Test concepts and features through simulators, emulators, and with live equipment

  • Design verification plans, preventative maintenance plans, and test procedures

  • Partner with external vendors to develop, test, and deploy automation systems

  • Work with internal operations stakeholders to obtain system feedback and measure system performance

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field)

  • 5+ years developing PLC and HMI systems using Allen-Bradley, TwinCAT, or related automation software

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, Modbus, EtherCAT, etc.

  • Experience with electrical schematics and Industrial Control Panels

  • Experience with software lifecycle tools like version control, CICD, unit/functional testing, etc.

  • Ability to simultaneously support multiple high priority projects in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to travel as needed

Bonus (if applicable):

  • Master's Degree (Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field)

  • Experience with IoT systems and MQTT communications

  • Ability to program in C, Python, Java, or related language

  • Experience developing applications in material handling or autonomous mobile robot (AMR) systems

  • Excellent organization, communication, and writing skills
