Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) (www.tuftsctsi.org/), one of more than 60 organizations supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSAs), was established in 2008 to transform the biomedical research process through education, collaboration, and the provision of infrastructure services. Tufts CTSI accelerates the translation of laboratory research into clinical use, medical practice, and health policy. In addition to its work with Tufts University, Tufts Medical Center, and its other partner organizations, Tufts CTSI contributes to the national CTSA Consortium.
Tufts CTSI seeks an outstanding Cheminformaticist, reporting to the Director of Advanced Systems Development, with a diverse set of skills and expertise to play a crucial role in developing the Tufts Analytics Platform (TAP): a cutting-edge, machine learning initiative utilizing clinical data, biological knowledge, and cheminformatics to drive discovery in both basic and translational research. The Cheminformaticist will assess, recommend, and document data sources and molecular and chemical pathway analytics workflows, and may be responsible for supporting other research functions.
As a member of Tufts CTSI and TAP, your responsibilities will include:
Playing a lead role in the design and development of data sets for integrating, analyzing and visualizing chemical data in the context of biomedical applications.
Utilizing open-source solutions (databases, toolkits and methods) in support of published scientific methods.
Interacting with interdisciplinary project teams to drive effective data staging and the development of predictive models.
Keeping ahead of scientific literature and interact with internal and external scientists to integrate novel cheminformatics and data science technologies.
Maintain a collaborative, team relationship with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working group’s achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
Perform other similar job-related duties as required or directed.
MS or PhD in cheminformatics, computational chemistry, or a related field.
Five years proven experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D chemical structure analysis and representation.
Strong knowledge of QSAR and QSTR modeling.
Strong knowledge of Pubchem, ZINC and related databases.
Familiarity with machine learning and modern concepts in data science desired but not mandatory.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong time management skills.
High attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to ensure high-quality on-time delivery of system documents and deliverables.
High level of self-confidence, creativity, self-motivation, and energy needed to undertake diverse responsibilities.
