AEI Consultants Business Development Manager - Environmental, Social and Governance in Boston, Massachusetts


POSITION: Business Development Manager - Environmental, Social & Governance


AEI Consultants has a new opportunity available for a full-time Business Development Manager to focus on growing AEI’s Environmental, Social & Governance service offerings inclusive of Energy Efficiency, Sustainability, ESG, and Climate Resiliency services. The Business Development Manager will have an entrepreneurial mindset and will identify opportunities and direct revenue growth efforts within our current client base as well as originate business from new accounts.


The Business Development Manager will work independently and as member of the sales team within a select strategic account base as well as serve as a mentor to the Sales, Marketing and Technical staff. Specific duties will include:

  • Responsible for internal account and external market research and setting growth goals for this sector with the highest potential;

  • Work with executive team to develop and implement strategy for growth within this sector that aligns with growth vision for AEI.

  • Serve as liaison between client needs and in-house technical capabilities, understanding the service offerings of the company, and facilitating success of the technical team through clear communication and well-written contracts;

  • Responsible for existing client service expansion: work with existing business development team to identify, qualify and generate ESG opportunities within existing accounts;

  • Responsible for new client origination: identify, qualify and generate new business opportunities within new accounts as well as cross-sell other all other AEI’s service offering;

  • Create, maintain and update key prospect list and develop a customer database using Dynamics CRM software;

  • Manage bid opportunity and generating proposals for sales opportunities;

  • Close sales and meet monthly sales goals in accordance with development plan;

  • Exemplify the AEI qualities of being positive, proactive and professional at all times;

  • Perform as a team player and abide by company guidelines with respect to contract language and terms, as well as scopes of work, and profit margin goals/guidelines.


All of the above will require developing trust with the members of the AEI’s staff and developing rapport with AEI’s top clients. Requirements and qualifications for this position include:

  • Previous sales experience specifically selling ESG services to national accounts (property owners, investors, developers and/or lenders)

  • Existing annual book of business between $1 to $3 million with ability to grow upward of $5 million specifically in these service lines

  • Client base with property owners who have a long-term vested interest in property and are responsible for compliance

  • Knowledgeable of net zero regulations, local benchmarking regulations and requirements

  • Strong communication skills

  • Sales and goal oriented

  • Competitive attitude with demonstrated achievements in business

  • Professional, high energy, self-starter

  • Exemplary customer service and relationship management skills

  • Ability to remain detail-oriented while working at a fast pace

  • Proven ability to proactively develop client relationships utilizing cold call and outside selling techniques, and

  • Experience in Commercial Real Estate and/or Commercial Financial Lending a plus, particularly related to owners and managers of portfolios of real estate assets and large industrial facilities, as well as those who finance transactions involving those property types


  • Bachelor’s degree in area related to engineering, business, or marketing


  • The work environment may be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work takes place in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work requires the ability to effectively perform work in all types of weather conditions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to manipulate, handle or reach; and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
