Boston Water and Sewer Commission Building Maintenance Technician II in Boston, Massachusetts

Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their

employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements


Investigate complaints and reported facilities problems and make necessary repairs. Perform physical maintenance using carpentry skills to cut, fit and assemble wood and other materials for the maintenance of Commission facilities. Responsible for the maintenance and security of all parts, materials and appropriate tools to perform assigned tasks. Operate pneumatic, hand tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned duties. Assist mechanic, craftsperson or semi-skilled maintenance person or others as required. Complete required forms and reports. Instruct and direct other Commission personnel in the skills needed to perform junior rating duties. Perform a variety of maintenance tasks. Clean and inspect interior and exterior of building. Operate, inspect, repair and paint. Perform investigations and diagnostic tests. Load and unload stock and equipment. Assist in the use, maintenance, preparation, handling and moving of a variety of materials, tools and equipment. Execute simple sketches and plans. May perform minor vehicle maintenance. May be required to perform the following: Read plans, install furniture, clear obstructions and remove snow. Perform all duties as assigned or required to fulfill the functions of the position.


High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of facilities/building related training programs is required. At least two years experience in the carpentry or skilled labor field is required. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Drivers License. A valid Massachusetts Hoisting License with 1C and 2C restrictions is required. Successful completion of the BWSC’s Apprentice Program unless otherwise agreed. May be required to complete Waste Water Collection Course and obtain certification. May be required to complete Water Distribution Course. Must have knowledge of all safety procedures and be able to demonstrate the proper use of all required safety equipment. Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commission
