This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for aFull-time Ports and Marine Engineer for our Boston, MA, Raleigh, NC, Purge Sound offices, and our Southern Calirofnia offices. This person will be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. Our Maritime group comprises of highly motivated analysts, planners, and engineers with a variety of technical backgrounds including economists, operations analysts, civil, environmental, ocean and structural engineering, and port planning, working in several key locations across the US and internationally. Major clients are port authorities, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and private entities. Our strength is derived from the diversity of our marine-related work and our staff.

Your Impact
Perform structural design for marine and upland components under supervision of senior ports and marine engineers
Prepare technical written communications in the form of memoranda and reports
Support managers in the creation of plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates in accordance with client requirements
Work in a team to make sure that work product meets scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements
Prepare drawings in AUTOCAD or REVIT and perform design calculations in support of broader engineering activities
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work
Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of site work and code compliance
Complete training on assigned tasks
Work collaboratively with other engineers, architects, and building, infrastructure, transportation, and port authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, or closely related discipline.
1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
Familiarity with marine, port, and coastal engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
Highly familiar with relevant marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer in Training Certification.
Prior design experience.
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
Previous experience in analyses and design of ports/maritime structures
Field investigation and/or construction support experience
Hands-on analyses and design experience (SAP2000, L-Pile)
Additional positions available for individuals holding a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) in addition to the qualifications above.
