Join Takeda as an Associate Director of Protein Production where you will be an inspirational, strategic leader to oversee the strategic and technical operations for the production with close communication and collaboration with the analytical team to ensure robust production of high quality therapeutic proteins in Global Biologics. You will also have a deep expertise in high-quality antigen generation, protein production for structural studies, and high-throughput to medium, large-scale biologics production with deep expertise of analytical and biophysical characterization of therapeutic proteins. As this role involves heavily antigen generation for therapeutic programs, background in structural biology is a big plus. As part of the Biologics Analytical Sciences team, you will report to the Senior Director of the team and work with the Global Biologics organization and co-lead biologics discovery programs along with therapeutic area leads. Broad knowledge of biologics discovery platforms is desirable.

How you will contribute:

  • Oversee antigen, tool or benchmark molecule generation and characterization for discovery programs.

  • Lead the production of proteins for structural biology studies, ensuring high quality and purity standards.

  • Manage small scale high-throughput, medium, and large-scale production of biologics, aligning with project timelines with business-driven mindset.

  • Integration of analytical characterization data to biologics production optimization.

  • Ensure clear communication among team members and teams across GB to foster a culture of proactive collaboration and engagement.

  • Ensure streamlined delivery of high-quality antigen, antibodies, bispecifics and other critical reagents at rapid speed to support rapid biologics discovery.

  • Continuous improvement mentality to drive platform development in terms of speed, quality and robustness is essential to keep global biologics on track with industrial standard.

  • Need to provide hands-on technical leadership at the bench as needed.

  • Lead discovery programs along with diverse biologics SMEs and with cross-functional discovery teams.

  • Understanding of in vitro/vivo antibody discovery platforms and knowledge of downstream CMC development is essential for success.

  • Mentor and develop a high-performing team dedicated to excellence in biologics production and characterization.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or related field with minimum of 10 years of relevant technical and leadership experience or a M.S. and B.S. with 15 years of relevant experience within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.

  • Proven track record of leading teams in biologics production and characterization of biologics.

  • Proven track record of delivering on tight timeline in line with industry standard quality and timeline.

  • Extensive knowledge of antigen generation and protein production for structural studies.

  • Expertise in high-throughput, medium, and large-scale biologics production.

  • Strong background in analytical characterization techniques of biologics.

  • Experience in biologics discovery platforms and understanding of CMC development.

  • Proven track record of leading biologics discovery programs.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire peers and junior members to drive towards a common goal.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Boston, MA

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
