Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, Marketing & Participation, the Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving, Marketing & Participation is responsible for assisting and implementing the development and management of the Boston College Annual Giving, Marketing & Participation direct marketing program, supporting efforts for the 1863 Society for leadership annual giving donors ($1K+). With the goal of increasing both discretionary dollars raised and overall alumni giving participation, he/she assists with the development of effective solicitation and stewardship strategies that utilize email and digital-based marketing channels, direct mail, and telemarketing for fundraising.

The Assistant/Associate Director is a vital contributor to the successful implementation of multichannel appeals, including day-to-day project management, end-to-end production management, and tracking and reporting fundraising results. Other responsibilities include monitoring internal direct mail appeals; pledge collection and gift acknowledgement mailings via mail and email, and the management of electronic commerce marketing pages as it relates to these solicitations.

Together with the Director of Annual Giving, Marketing & Participation, the Assistant/Associate Director will be expected to help develop specific strategies for the annual giving direct marketing program, including identifying challenging segments, learning and developing best practices as it relates to annual giving, and continually improving fundraising results for BC. To be successful, the Assistant/Associate Director must be comfortable working with databases and software. Data analysis and technical competencies with a sophisticated database and desktop programs are required.

Additionally, he/she will maintain and foster relationship with vendors related to direct mail, email and web-based tools, while effectively representing the interests of Boston College.

Hiring Range: Salary commensurate with relevant experience

Assistant Director: minimum of 1 year of directly related direct/digital marketing and/or telemarketing fundraising experience, $45,650 - $57,050

Associate Director, minimum 3 years of directly related direct/digital marketing and/or telemarketing fundraising experience, $50,350 - $62,950


This position requires a Bachelor's degree and for the Assistant Director level, a minimum of one year of directly related direct/digital marketing and/or telemarketing fundraising experience or related experience; the Associate Director level requires a minimum of three years of the above experience. Both positions require proven organizational and project management skills, preferably in an institution of higher education in a campaign environment or in comparable settings

This position requires excellent spoken, written and interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail, and superior project management and proof-reading skills. Aptitude for analysis and understanding data and numbers is important. A demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively about higher education and the Jesuit tradition is highly desirable.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data management software, and email marketing tools is expected.

Some evening and weekend work is required to fulfill job responsibilities. Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College.
