  • Responsible for: (1) analyzing existing business segments within Transportation to ensure optimum efficiencies and economies are achieved; (2) monitoring all transportation contracts and pricing schedules, both domestic and international, to ensure compliance to effective and expiration dates; (3) conducting studies for new business opportunities within all transportation modes (ocean, motor carrier, intermodal, small parcel) to allow BJ's to maintain its competitive logistics advantage; (4) evaluating and implementing transportation initiatives to support on-going growth including constant collaboration with merchandising; (5) developing analytical tools to analyze vital operating statistics to identify trends and make changes to current transportation processes; (6) determining cost control procedures and audit processes across all transportation modes to ensure integrity of pricing agreements; (7) supporting all transportation operations for BJs clubs and DCs

    Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Analyze all existing business segments within Transportation to ensure optimum pricing levels and operational efficiencies are achieved through system enhancements and training.

  • Support new business implementations, specifically merchandising initiatives across all transportation modes, to enhance transportation offerings to members and assist in driving sales growth.

  • Conduct analysis on carrier / logistics provider business proposals within all transportation modes (ocean, air, motor carrier, and parcel) to allow BJ's to maintain its competitive advantage within supply chain initiatives.

  • Develop tools to track vital operating statistics and pricing evaluations to identify trends and implement changes to achieve optimal transportation results.

  • Implement operational and cost control audit procedures for all modes of Transportation, specifically international and small parcel shipments.

  • Administer transportation planning operations and TLM system usage chain-wide.

  • Analysis of Carrier Capacity, Service and Price: Continuously evaluate carrier capacity, services and pricing for international and domestic lanes to ensure efficiencies are attained and growing transportation demands are met. Success depends on effective evaluation of preferred carriers' operations, skilled analytical abilities, sound assessments of proposed and alternative transportation services, strong negotiation skills and prudent decision making ability.

  • Procedural and System Enhancements: Identify and implement procedural and system enhancements to improve department's efficiencies in support of company growth. Success depends on sound assessments of current processes, proper identification of opportunities of advancement and the continued pursuit of streamlined processes that rely on automation.

  • Carrier Contract Reviews: Review and analyze all international and domestic contracts and rate adjustment proposals to ensure all contracts are current and competitive pricing is maintained. Success depends on skilled analysis of service options and price, timely administration of requests for proposals, and effective negotiation skills.

  • Operational Support: Provide daily operational and analytical support to all functions within the department. Success depends on sharp understanding of all processes and operations within the department, strong communication skills with intra-company departments and external partners, and keen focus on elements of an effective supply chain.

  • New Business Support: Support company-wide objective of increasing Ecommerce business levels by enhancing service options. Success depends on a keen knowledge of operational processes, complete understanding of carriers' service offerings and abilities and proper decision-making ability.

  • System Administration: Coordinate chain-wide user access for UPS CampusShip. Success depends on a complete understanding of UPS shipping process at club and DC level and the ability to research and resolve shipment discrepancies timely.

  • Provide analysis, recommendations, and functional guidance to the Transportation Department to streamline operational processes.

  • Evaluate shipping options and make recommendations to Ecommerce.

  • Monitor freight charges across all modes and review with Finance and Logistics Financial Control as needed.

  • Assume leadership role in the development and further expansion of Transportation operations and systems (TPORA, UPS CampusShip, warehouse management systems and transportation management systems, SCI), vital to BJ's future growth.

  • Lead the continued growth plus knowledge training on our transportation management system.

  • Develop intuitive cohesive carrier score carding across all of Transportation modes [ . Leverage score-carding to improve carrier service levels. Collaborate with planning and allocation on vendor service level opportunities.

  • Design freight cost audit tools to enhance small parcel, domestic, perishable, and ocean freight audit processes.

  • Monitor and maintain all carrier contracts and related documents.

  • Identify improved transportation methods through ongoing lane analysis and transit studies.

  • Implement program to evaluate shipping costs for on-line merchandise and suggest shipping modes and charges to maintain competitive advantage.

  • Maintain and enhance freight cost audit tools each year to capture rate structure updates and changes.

  • Implement a developed transportation management system or 3rd party TMS solutions.

  • Determine optimal transportation modes and routings to achieve lowest [ freight expense.

  • Determine and communicate expected freight costs and transit times for shipments.

  • Determine changes to Transportation processes and procedures to efficiently scale operations for growing business levels.

  • Propose carrier routing changes resulting from annual bids and analysis. Support consultant projects and RFP’s with data/analysis in order to achieve savings initiatives [

  • Recommend adjustments to freight cost tables to ensure freight expenses are being allocated fully.

  • Recommend system enhancements for Transportation and appropriate Ecommerce processes.

  • Recommend and implement process enhancements to streamline Transportation operations.

  • Collaborate with merchants and suppliers on CPU cost saving initiatives

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent transportation experience required.

  • Two years in a business environment, preferably in Supply Chain/Logistics [ /Transportation/Operations

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills. [

  • Basic understanding of transportation pricing and import operations is helpful.

  • TMS, WMS and SAP experience beneficial

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $66,000.00.
