Microchip Technology Pr. Engineer-Hardware in Beverly, Massachusetts


The FTD business unit offers a comprehensive portfolio of semiconductor and system solutions for communications, defense & security, aerospace and industrial markets. Products include high-performance and radiation-hardened analog mixed-signal integrated circuits, FPGAs, SoCs and ASICs; power management products; timing and synchronization devices and precise time solutions, setting the world's standard for time; voice processing devices; RF solutions; discrete components; security technologies and scalable anti-tamper products; Ethernet solutions; Power-over-Ethernet ICs and midspans; as well as custom design capabilities and services.

Microchip is currently looking for a Principle Engineer-Hardware to join our Frequency and Timing team. Responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with Software and Mechanical Design Teams to ensure robust and producible product designs.

  • Work with Component Engineering on ROHS and Lifecycle issues.

  • Provide technical leadership for next generation atomic clock design and development

  • Provide FMA and other troubleshooting support to production on new and existing products.

  • With the Hardware Engineering Manager, guide and mentor a focused group of electrical engineers on best practices for new product development and sustaining engineering

  • Develop and execute test and qualification plans for engineering prototypes

  • Design and capture schematics using the Mentor Graphics suite, and work closely with the layout designer ensure a working and manufacturable design.

  • Manage electrical designs in the Product Lifecycle Management tool Agile - entails creating bills of material and engineering change orders.


  • Requires BS Electrical Engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience in hardware design.

  • Requires a complete understanding of analog designs such as active filters and control loops.

  • Must have knowledge of the physical layer of digital interfaces such as USB, SPI and I2C.

  • FPGA design experience is preferred.

  • Microwave synthesis knowledge is preferred.

  • Crystal oscillator experience is preferred.

  • Must be adept at technical research and drafting of design reports.

  • Must possess proven ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, engineering electrical schematics, product and process specifications, Statements of Work (SOWs).

  • Strong ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and interface well with peers and management in a corporate setting.

  • Requires knowledge and familiarity with electronic manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with component selection in space applications with radiation requirements is desired.

  • Must have familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, specific experience using Agile is desired.

  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office Suite and strong Technical Writing skills.

  • Familiar with task tracking tools such as Atlassian’s JIRA is preferred.

  • This job requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States. Candidates are required to provide proof of US citizenship or current permanent residency.
