Summary: About the position: This position will be assigned to the Auto Skills Center. This position is flexible- may work 0-40 hrs/week based on mission requirements. Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing up to 40 lbs. May lift heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Duties: The purpose of this position is to provide customer service in the check out and receipt of automotive repair equipment, inventory maintenance and scheduling appointments for use of automotive repair/paint stalls within Skills Development. Issues, receives and schedules use of equipment, tools and repair/paint stalls for patrons. Uses chit or other parts assignment system for accountability of assigned tools. Determines type of repair job involved and suggests a variety of tools needed to accomplish the repair. Provides instructions to customers on cleaning processes, soiled rag disposal, sweeping and cleanup of repair or pit stall and removal of excess automotive parts. Ensures tools turned-in are clean, assesses breakage or damage if any; charging customer for tools according to prescribed price listing. Operates cash register and accounts for cash using established procedures. Maintains inventory control records of items issued, conducts minor maintenance and repair of tools and equipment. Accounts for condition, inspects tools upon return, bins, stores or replaces item with new. Arranges tools and parts as stock is replenished or added. Develops display pegboards, cleans and grinds tools requiring sharp edges. Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times. May be required to act as the primary or alternate equipment custodian. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of a wide variety of automotive tools and parts; good work shop practices to include setting up and maintaining a neat, well organized and secure storage area; inventory procedures and records maintenance. In addition, must have experience working with patrons providing quality customer service. Must be able to follow written and/or oral instruction, make simple mathematical computations and be able to follow cash handling procedures. Must be able to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds Education: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.
