MITRE Engenuity is a non-for-profit tech foundation created by the MITRE Corporation to undertake complex challenges that neither government nor industry can solve on their own.
We are seeking a Sr Principal, Semiconductor Equipment Expert, who will join a growing team that is forming the execution plan for the development and acceleration of U.S. leadership for the Semiconductor industry. The candidate is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the global semiconductor industry, which is composed of a complex ecosystem of supply chains, chip fabrication facilities, fabless companies, designers and tool and equipment manufacturers making products that feed numerous industries including communications, computing, healthcare, automotive and defense, among others. The candidate will contribute to all aspects of analysis and proposals where the MITRE Engenuity team is working on business models, policies, and technologies, and to recommend market and strategic initiatives to support US economic success and growth in the semiconductor industry. The candidate should have at least fifteen years of experience in research, development, strategic/technical business marketing, applications, or business operations in semiconductor equipment.
Mapping the future needs of the semiconductor industry especially related to emerging and critical technologies in semiconductor equipment.
Discovering, interpreting, and troubleshooting gaps in semiconductor equipment technologies and supply chain and supporting proposals and strategy to close gaps.
Developing a strategic map of key stakeholders in the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and their role, value creation and contributions.
Analyzing and developing strategic proposals in support of MITRE Engenuity initiatives in semiconductors, spanning business models, technology, investments, and innovation.
Communicating and interfacing with a wide team of external stakeholders (including Fortune 500’s, small businesses, Universities, government representatives, and startups) on developing a semiconductor technical roadmap, especially as it relates to the future of semiconductor equipment.
Developing milestone-driven development roadmaps and strategic scenarios for technologies and commercialization.
Preparing and communicating plans to internal and external stakeholders, including memos, presentations, and financial projections that clearly convey the results, findings, and recommendations.
PhD or MS in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least ten years of directly applicable experience in technology development, strategic marketing, product management, or business strategy within the semiconductor industry value chain.
Proven ability to formulate market or strategy research questions, develop and execute business strategy, and inform technical roadmaps, risk profiles, and strategic growth decisions.
A detailed understanding of semiconductor equipment trends and technologies with the ability to provide thought leadership and technical assessment to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to clearly articulate (at a high level) the process of conceptualizing, designing, manufacturing, equipment, and testing a chip.
Ability to create and execute workplans, as well as to create metrics to evaluate success / failure of new business ideas and proposals.
Strong network in the semiconductor community at senior technical and executive levels.
Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact at all corporate levels effectively and comfortably.
10+ years in technical leadership roles developing designs, tools, materials, or processing capabilities for semiconductors.
MBA or demonstrated experience in business leadership role.
Director-level leadership experience in a technology, strategy or business development group at a startup or a large corporation.
Demonstrable experience leading complex, high-impact, and industry-changing development projects.
Experience working as a consultant or corporate analyst, with demonstrated success in delivering market analyses, strategic scenarios and delivering on goals and milestones
Experience / familiarity in one or more of the MITRE Accelerator’s focus areas, in addition to semiconductors and microelectronics: cybersecurity, health data, 5G, and transportation.
