iRobot Corporation Senior Principal Systems Engineer in Bedford, Massachusetts

iRobot is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer with experience in product development and sustainment of complex systems to work in our "iPro Sustaining Group".

As a Systems Engineer on a consumer robot development team, you will work with team leadership to ensure that the integrated performance of the product meets or exceeds the needs and expectation of the customer. An essential part of your role is to lead a cross functional team in subsystem debugging, refining, testing and help in redesigning our products when needed.

You will leverage your skills and experience to define the best technical path forward. You will lead the team through the customer input, requirements development, theory of operation, trade studies, pragmatic risk management, integration, trouble shooting and test.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the technologies and subsystems that make up a mobile, navigating, connected robot. You have technical depth in one or more of the core disciplines (mechanical, electrical or software) and broad working knowledge of the other two. For technologies that are new to you, you have the skills to quickly ramp up through engagement with Subject Matter Experts. You have a strong technical voice, and you are respected by your team. You lead by example, and you provide direction through a combination of leadership, collaboration and buy-in. You also have experience with building the right consumer product, based on customer knowledge and customer empathy.

  • Broad technical knowledge including many of the following topics: Embedded systems, hardware - software dependencies, optical sensors, Wi-Fi, navigation, power systems and motion control

  • Proven, skilled leadership of cross functional teams

  • Experience (10+ years) in new product development

  • BS in one of the core disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software) and a solid working knowledge of the other two

  • MS preferred

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision

  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to learn quickly

  • Demonstrated systems thinking

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
