MITRE’s Enterprise Computing, Information, and Security Center is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer with a background in implementing, managing and supporting storage, virtualization and cloud technologies. This position is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned candidate seeking to be part of a collaborative team that leverages automation to deliver infrastructure services for the organization. The ideal candidate will be able to lead and/or contribute to various high priority technical project within the Corporate storage, virtualization and cloud migration roadmap.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and/or contribute to projects for various high priority technical efforts within the Corporate Roadmap

  • Provide innovative ideas and lead technical projects that enable MITRE to enhance, expand, automate and/or optimize the systems and services supported by the Operations team

  • System administration and optimization of Corporate storage and virtual server environments

  • Within defined SLAs, provide troubleshooting support for issues within the teams’ supported areas

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS and 5 years related experience.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. A minimum clearance level of Secret is required with the possibility of a Top Secret clearance being required based on future project/team needs.

Required Qualifications:

This position is focused on the advancement and sustainment of MITRE’s storage and virtualization systems. Attention to detail and follow through on assignments is critical. As a senior staff member, the candidate needs to work effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Lead or support critical storage and virtualization projects to ensure best outcomes occur

  • Management of MITRE’s storage and virtualization systems and projects – to include, but not limited to:

  • Scripting and Automation of routine tasks

  • Cloud migrations

  • Virtual Desktop Integration

  • Reporting and analysis of key metrics

  • Administration of storage platforms

  • Administration of virtualization platforms

  • Triage and repair of issues

  • Provide and maintain architectural and procedural documentation of supported environments

  • Cross train others on staff as needed to bring depth to the team’s support capabilities

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience or education focused on Cloud Migration strategies – AWS and/or Azure experience is a plus

  • Understanding of DevOps/Agile philosophy and a mindset to leverage it whenever possible – Chef or Ansible experience is a plus

  • Hands on and in-depth experience with management of storage systems – Pure Storage, NetApp and/or Cleversafe experience is a plus

  • Hands on and in-depth experience with management of Virtualization platforms – VMWare, MS Hyper-V and/or Citrix XenServer experience is a plus

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Server and/or RedHat Linux administration

  • Comfort with collection and analysis of key metrics within supported services – provide reports and propose/take action to proactively address potential issues


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to learn from and teach others

  • Ability to lead small to mid-size efforts using project management skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Versatility and flexibility to be able to work across multiple efforts in a dynamic work program

  • Demonstrate a collaborative mindset with an ability to work/negotiate across diverse teams and staff levels

  • Must be able to obtain a Secret level of government clearance - must also demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Participation in an on-call rotation
