Join MITRE as an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer.
The Mechanical & Reliability Systems & Prototype Development Department provides innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems. Areas of expertise include ground, airborne and shipboard systems. Engineers from the group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, fabrication, and environmental testing. We provide technical guidance through rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods with data driven products to enhance decision making and risk management.
We are significantly expanding our Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Lab (to include polymer, metal, and ceramic additive manufacturing printing capabilities) to support our customers increased needs in this technology area. This lab will focus on Additive Manufacturing research and development in the areas of design, simulation, process, and applications. This position will guide our AM R&D program as well as develop internal and external partnerships to enhance our impact on our sponsors. The focus will be on leveraging AM to enhance/optimize design performance that enables new fielded capabilities for our customers.
Work as part of multidisciplinary team to expand an Advanced Manufacturing work program supported by direct contracts and bolstered by a robust internal research portfolio
Identify, propose, and lead research projects implementing new manufacturing technologies or addressing key barriers towards use of these technologies
Develop relationships with government and non-traditional MITRE customers to bring MITRE Advanced Manufacturing and Systems Engineering expertise to bear
BS and 10 years of related experience, including 2 years of leadership experience
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Automation Engineering, or related field with 8 years of experience with 2 years of leadership experience
Deep technical knowledge of traditional manufacturing techniques as well as additive manufacturing
Experience implementing robotics or automation in manufacturing process improvement
Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to scope and perform engineering tasks autonomously
Demonstrated excellence and effectiveness in written and verbal communication skills
Successful experience developing business relationships with industry, academia, and/or government agencies
Record of scoping and proposing research and analysis projects in advanced manufacturing/advanced materials
Having or capable of obtaining a Secret clearance
Master’s Degree and/or PhD in Mechanical, Industrial, or Automation Engineering or related field with 10 years of experience
Demonstrated experience implementing manufacturing process improvements in technology, biomedical, or aerospace industries
Knowledge of data analysis techniques and statistical tools as applied to process optimization
Broad awareness of end-to-end manufacturing process including fabrication technologies, quality management, supply chain
