MITRE is seeking an expert in satellite navigation technologies, particularly the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS), and electromagnetic spectrum management. This includes aviation applications of GPS and issues of GPS compatibility and interoperability. You will provide technical and analytical support for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and Dual-Frequency Multi-Constellation objectives, plus perform analyses of signal interference for Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) geostationary satellites. Another goal is to provide analytical support for both the Alternative Position, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) and for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). You will work directly with government sponsors and industry to understand their challenges, evaluate solutions, lead the conduct of insightful analyses that yield actionable results, and identify follow-on activities to move solutions forward.
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Experience working in the satellite navigation technology domain, especially with WAAS, SBAS, and APNT systems
Excellent written and oral communication skills, for complex and interconnected concepts
Experience working in industry and government standards development forums, such as RTCA
Experience in data analysis, applied mathematics, and quantitative methods
Strong skills with programming/scripting languages (R, Python, etc.), and familiarity with associated statistical analysis packages and machine learning techniques
Experience working in the aviation domain and with aviation data sets, including radar data and FAA/industry data sets (e.g., ASPM, OOOI, ASQP, Form 41, OPSNET, O/D Survey, etc.).
Background in the operational fields of aviation: pilot, air traffic control/traffic management, airline operations, unmanned aircraft systems (drones), or space launch and reentry
