The Senior Front-End Semiconductor Business Strategy Lead will join a growing team that is forming the execution plan for the development and acceleration of leadership for the U.S. Semiconductor industry. The candidate is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the global semiconductor industry, which is composed of a complex ecosystem of supply chain, semiconductor fabrication, fabless companies, designers, tools, and equipment vendors, and makes products that feed numerous industries including communications, computing, healthcare, automotive and defense. The candidate will contribute to all aspects of analysis and proposals where the MITRE Engenuity team is working on business models, policies, and technologies, and to recommend market and strategic initiatives to support U.S. economic success and growth in the semiconductor industry. The candidate should have at least five years of experience in front-end semiconductor manufacturing/integration or research, development, or operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in the MITRE Engenuity team focused on analyzing and developing strategic proposals, spanning business models, technology, investments, and innovation.

  • Communicating and interfacing with a wide team of external stakeholders (including Fortune 500’s, small businesses, Universities, government representatives, and startups) on a semiconductor technical roadmap, especially around front-end semiconductor development and production.

  • Developing milestone-driven development roadmaps and strategic scenarios for technologies and commercialization, including prototyping, scale-up for production, and key performance metrics.

  • Discover, interpret, and troubleshoot gaps in the front-end semiconductor supply chain.

  • Preparing and communicating plans to internal and external stakeholders, including memos, presentations, and financial projections that clearly convey the results, findings, and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least five (5) years of directly applicable experience in the semiconductor industry in product development, technical research, production management, or strategy role. MBA would be a plus.

  • Proven ability to formulate technical strategy, market or strategy research questions and to develop and execute plans resulting in well-researched recommendations to inform roadmaps, key risks, and strategic growth decisions.

  • A detailed understanding of the front-end semiconductor fabrication process flow and supply chain, particularly the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience planning, executing, and leading Wafer-level fabrication or R&D, including:

  • Front-end semiconductor manufacturing research and development.

  • Prototyping semiconductor devices in industry facilities.

  • Running and/or managing production-grade lines at a fab or foundry.

  • Proven track record and responsibility for creating top-down and bottom-up business models and financial projections in high-tech or deep tech industries.

  • Ability to create and execute workplans, as well as to create metrics to evaluate success / failure of new business ideas.

  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact at all corporate levels effectively and comfortably.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in a technical leadership role (with or without direct reports).

  • Demonstrable experience working on high-level, industry-changing development projects.

  • Experience with non-silicon semiconductors: a demonstrated knowledge of non-silicon semiconductor materials and applications.

  • Experience working as a consultant or analyst in corporate venture, with demonstrated success in delivery market analyses, strategic scenarios and delivering on goals and milestones

  • Experience / subject-matter expertise in one or more of the MITRE Accelerator’s focus areas, in addition to semiconductors and microelectronics: cybersecurity, health data, 5G, and transportation.
