MITRE’s Electronic Systems Development and Embedded Security department is seeking to hire talented and creative engineers with a background in embedded software engineering to support advanced research and development projects of national significance.

Qualified candidates will join a team of technical experts focused on prototyping electronic systems. This multi-disciplinary team performs hands-on research and analysis and develops proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate and advance the state-of-the-art in embedded systems. Roles and Responsibilities:

Our team specializes in rapid prototyping of advanced sensor, communication, and navigation systems on state-of-the-art embedded system platforms. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work on and with:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Candidates must meet requirements to support project work onsite in our labs and classified facilities on the Bedford Campus.R

  • R equires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Understanding of embedded systems and hardware/software interaction.

  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming including a working knowledge of one or more common languages such as C++, C, Python, etc.

  • Understanding of good software development practices including approaches to design, implementation, testing, documentation, and debugging.

  • Basic knowledge in one or more of the following: low-level processor architectures, operating system concepts, and hardware interfacing.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering.

  • Exposure to cutting-edge, reconfigurable SoC platforms (i.e. Xilinx MPSoC, Xilinx RFSoC, Xilinx Versal, Intel Arria 10 SoC)

  • Solid understanding of development practices including design and code reviews, testing and regression, revision control, and user documentation.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages and build tools (TCL, Python, CMake, etc.).

  • Solid foundation of basic signal processing concepts and exposure to MATLAB or Python for signal processing

  • Exposure to GPU or DSP programming for signal processing applications.

  • Experience implementing real-time signal processing algorithms for communication, RADAR, and/or navigation applications.

  • Familiarity with real time operating systems, POSIX, embedded Linux user and kernel environments.

  • Experience with low-level hardware/software system debugging.

  • Familiarity with commercial wired and wireless networking protocols.

  • Autonomous and with demonstrated ability to provide deliverables or parts of deliverables to customers.

  • Familiarity with Git or related source control management tools, and their best practices.
