MITRE has an immediate need for an Electromagnetic and Nuclear Effects Engineer to join a team focused on Environmental Electromagnetic Effects (E3) and Nuclear Effects. The team has decades of experience with Nuclear Survivability, Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), High Altitude EMP (HEMP), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), TEMPEST, Lightning, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation and Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics (TREE) providing analysis of effects, test capabilities as well as developing detailed requirements ensuring that systems are developed and maintained survivable capabilities.

This position is located in Bedford, Massachusetts

Job Responsibilities:

  • Use Modeling and Simulation to analyze nuclear effects on aircraft, spacecraft and communications systems

  • Conduct engineering analyses, design and vulnerability assessments to evaluate the effects of radiation, electromagnetic pulses and/or electromagnetic interference.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Level security clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step

  • 4 years of related experience in Electromagnetics (EMI/EMC), EMP or TREE

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline

  • Experience with one or more of the following tools:

Electromagnetics

  • MATLAB, FEKO, ANSYS/HFSS

Radiation

  • MCNP 6.2, CREME96, CRÈME-MC

  • GEANT4, Space Radiation 7.0

  • Strong understanding of the electromagnetic and radiation effects on electronics

  • Experience in electronics design for spacecraft and aircraft and communication system

  • Experience with testing electronic parts to determine suitability to operate in specified environments
